Trucheck FemmeSafe is now available at The Cancer Screening Trust. It is a blood-based screening test based on the presence of Circulating Tumour Cells and validated to detect: breast, ovarian, uterine and cervical cancer.

Cancers of the breast, o***y, uterus and cervix account for approximately 3.6 million diagnosed cases and 1.3 million deaths in women worldwide, each year (Globocan, 2020). Early detection of these cancers results in more effective treatments and increased survival prospects.

In recent light of World Cancer Day, The Cancer Screening Trust are here to support people and communities to raise awareness and take action against cancer. Detecting cancer as early as possible allows individuals to have the best chance for successful treatment. Screening can help prevent the development of cancers and detect it at an early stage. It is estimated that over 5000 lives are saved by the cancer screening programmes each year in the UK (www.news.cancerresearchuk.org/2024/02/02/world-cancer-day-2024). The Cancer Screening Trust aim to increase this, with the Trucheck Intelli blood test that is validated to detect over 70 different types of cancer at the earliest of stages. Datar Cancer Genetics, who developed Trucheck Intelli, have conducted research studies on a 'world-first' blood test which can diagnose glial tumours including: glioblastoma (GBM), the most commonly-diagnosed high-grade brain tumour in adults, astrocytomas and oligodendrogliomas. They found the test had 'high analytical sensitivity, specificity and precision'. Such a non-invasive and inexpensive method for early detection of brain tumours is critical for improvements in patient care.

Whilst there is still some way to go, it uses similar methods to that of Trublood by detecting intact circulating tumour cells from the blood, which can be analysed to the same cellular detail as an actual tissue sample.

CST are currently offering Trublood products as well as a number of others, find out more on our website: www.thecancerscreeningtrust.co.uk

One person a minute in Britain will be diagnosed with cancer by 2040 according to a recent article from The Times (www.thetimes.co.uk/article/cancer-diagnosis-warning-2040-research-uk-sb8bdrg2z). Investment in research to prevent this is failing to keep up with the ever-increasing burden of cancer according to Michelle Mitchel, chief executive of Cancer Research UK. In the UK, there are an estimated 419,935 cases of cancer annually and if the present trend persists, this will rise to 505,565 by 2040 along with deaths from 176,376 to 208,022.

With a focus on healing yourself, middle-aged adults can help prevent thousands of cases by removing unhealthy habits from their lifestyle such as smoking, excessive drinking, and obesity.

However, there are reasons to be optimistic, one being the use of blood tests as an early diagnostic screening method. In the UK, a worse prognosis is generally thought to be caused by late diagnosis where cancers are typically harder to treat. Blood tests such as Trucheck Intelli can be used as a screening tool to detect cancers at the earliest stages using Circulating Tumour Cells with 88.2% sensitivity. Early detection means that treatment is more likely to be successful. Find out more on our website today: www.thecancerscreeningtrust.co.uk

Happy New Year to everyone from CST! We have achieved lots during a busy year thanks to our hard working staff, clinical team and loyal clients. In 2023, we started providing genetic tests for cancer, successfully made it through to the next stage of the Somerset Business Awards, ran a marathon for cancer awareness and had a Telegraph article written for CST and the Trucheck Intelli blood test. We aim to continue to support the early detection of cancer and change lives in 2024.

Dan Hogarty recently completed The Big Half marathon in London in preparation for his marathon in Venice coming up at the end of this month. The Cancer Screening Trust is proud to be sponsoring Dan on his first marathon, especially as he is raising money for his niece. Shortly after the birth of her incredible daughter Opal last year, Maddy, Dan's cousin, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer. She handled the ensuing surgery and treatment with astonishing grace and courage, accompanied every step of the way by her family and devoted husband, Ben. She spent her final weeks at her parents’ home, bathed in love and calm, and with the sounds of nature all around. Please read more and donate here https://gofund.me/b35dec7f
