Mental Health Act reforms are now law. 📣

The changes aim to improve dignity, choice and fairness in mental health crisis care, while addressing long-standing inequalities.

For people affected by addiction, this matters. Mental health challenges and substance use often overlap, yet support can be fragmented or hard to access.

This is an important step forward. Real change will depend on sustained investment in mental health and addiction services, including prevention, dual-diagnosis care and community-based support.

✅ Deaths where alcohol played a part dropped 4%

However, alcohol-specific deaths are still 28% higher than in 2019, meaning harm is far above pre-pandemic levels.

Did you know that around 1 in 10 UK adults have personally experienced addiction?

This comes from recent Ipsos polling shared by the Taking Action on Addiction campaign. Addiction touches more lives than most people realise, yet stigma and silence can make it feel lonely.

This Addiction Awareness Week, let’s start the conversation, support one another, and remind people that recovery is possible. 💙

Thinking about holding an intervention? Here’s how to do it with care:

🔹Involve a professional interventionist or therapist
🔹Choose 1–2 trusted loved ones (family or friends) to participate
🔹Share your concerns and the impact of their addiction, focusing on a supportive, non-judgmental approach
🔹Plan next steps and present treatment options like rehab or counselling

An intervention done with empathy and guidance can be a crucial first step toward recovery. 💙
