We had another great and fun week with the Storytelling Pilot Study!

This week we made the stories previously shared, into books🤩 Everyone helped each other write and make the books, whilst sharing even more stories of the beloved pets🐾 3 residents, 3 stories of pets turned into visual books, with more to come the next few weeks!

Thank you to Nicola Grove for bringing us this opportunity. Thank you to all staff and volunteers who help in the sessions.

On Wednesday 21st January, we inaugurated our new initiative: Grief Cafe☕
A Grief Cafe is a casual reunion of people who are experiencing or have experienced loss, and for those who are struggling with difficult news to come together and speak about it. There is no agenda about what gets talked and it is not counselling. It is a community that support each other, can find understanding and solace in one another, can honour a loved one and can ask questions.
The first session ran smoothly and supported all who joined, all thanks to the assistance of palliative nurse Rainer who joined to answer any questions staff and past and present resident's families had. Heaviness was lifted, stories of loved ones were shared and tears were shed, because the love we have for people remains strong even when that person is gone.
The Grief Cafe will continue to take place at CNH, with the following session happening in March.

What a successful and interesting Reading Club session!📖📚

We read, spoke, analysed and commented on some of the stories told in 'I've lived in East London for 86 1/2 years' by Martin Usborne. The stories are of late Joseph Markovitch who spoke of his life and observations made over the years about the area of East London where a lot of our residents themselves have lived for decades.

It was an insightful session which will be repeated next week with a new book to look into!

Thank you Professor Nicola for doing such a marvelous and fun session for the Storytelling Pilot Study!

The residents all took part in very engaging and stimulating games and then shared stories amongst each other about beloved pets🐈‍⬛🐇🐕

With good facilitation, the help of photo cards and a big mac, Bingo, sensory activities and sharing funny anecdotes and memories was possible!

With this study CNH aims to engage residents, who wish to participate, in socialising with each other in a safe space via sharing life stories and creating new ones. After this session with Nicola, at the end of the project each resident will have their own book about their pet's stories that they all help each other make🐾🤩.

The Jingle Bell Singers were incredible and did a fantastic job at being inclusive with residents and family present, including those not present. They filled the corridor with live singing and it was wonderful.✨
