Might sound strange, but hearing ‘your classes are gentle and sooo not gentle’ is the ultimate compliment. That’s exactly what I’m trying to create; an environment where people feel safe enough to soften, yet brave enough to test their limits. I also love providing the chance for us all to discover that effective strengthening can come from small, subtle, and often soft, movements. We don’t always need to do more and more to get results.

I’ve had a lot of people in class recently who are recovering from or dealing with long term health issues. It’s a privilege to have a lived experience, to enable me to truly empathize with these clients. If you’re wanting to get into exercise with a long-term health struggle, my classes or sessions could be a great place to start.

Recently on the last JEMS training weekend, we discussed what holistic treatment really means. It’s not about treating everything at once or turning it into a data project. Holistic treatment is actually quite simple. It’s about stripping things back and finding that subtle soft communication between yourself and your patient.

This is the same for holistic recovery. Recovering from persistent pain is actually very simple. It’s not something complex, but it does involve embracing the complexities of yourself and also the complexities of the environment you are in. Simple, but often not easy 💚.

We celebrate when the seasons shift; when autumn leaves transform, when summer days stretch longer. We welcome these changes in nature because we trust that another season is always on its way.
But when it comes to changes in ourselves, we so often resist. Afraid of what might happen if we’re different, worried that once we change, we’ll be stuck that way forever. I know I fall into this mindset A LOT. And this is why autumn is such a great reminder… that just like nature is always changing, so are we. Change isn’t a permanent state we get trapped in - it’s part of our natural cycle. We are always evolving, always moving. We are never truly stuck!

Great to see the guardian publishing these themes. More importantly, this is an excellent read. It speaks to so much I share about pain recovery and why emotional processing is so crucial - not just for people trying to heal from pain, but for all of us.

We live in a world of constant distractions that pull us away from the deeper feelings our minds and bodies are trying to convey. This article beautifully captures how so many of us stay in the shallows of our emotions and never truly get to the deeper feelings underneath.

It’s not just people on a healing journey who need to access these deeper emotions - we all do. When we avoid this inner work, we miss out on the transformation that comes from truly processing what we carry within us.

This piece shines a light on the uncomfortable truth we should all brave to face; real change happens when we stop skimming the surface and dive into the depths of our emotional landscape. 💙
