Keeleigh’s Story
“I was on a night out with a group of my friends in Nottingham for a sit-down club event when covid restrictions were just easing. I had only pre-drank one drink. When we got there I had ordered one drink and one shot to come to our table. They were brought to us and after drinking them I was still completely fine. I decided to go see my friends at a different table. I had a drink with them and after that I went out to the smoking area with them. At this point I started to feel a bit faint, but remember who I was speaking to out there and there was a boy with us that I had known for the whole year who was being inappropriate with me in the state that I was in. I remember saying that I needed the toilet and him not letting me leave at first, but the rest of my memory is completely patchy.
I felt sick but couldn’t be sick at all. My brain was awake but my body was incapable of functioning. I tried several times to reach for my phone and text my friend but every time I tried, my body would fall backwards. I was trying to understand in the moment, because I ate properly before, and I had not over done it with the amount of drinks that I had. It was the fact that I couldn’t be sick at all, my brain was coherent, and I was completely stuck, where I thought something was seriously wrong.
I hadn’t realised that I had been spiked until relaying the story to all of my friends who knew me and my typical behaviour on a night out, and had all said that it was abnormal and there was no way I was responsible for it. It should be that there are procedures within institutions taking place to protect our safety. Therefore I feel incredibly lucky and happy to see every time TippleTops work with a new venue, because it gives me hope that people do care and things can change.”
