Most people have heard of stimming.

But we bet you do at least one of these without even realising it.

Stimming is just the small things your body does to help your brain regulate itself when you’re stressed, bored, overwhelmed, excited, or trying to focus.

It can look like:
1️⃣ picking your nails or skin
2️⃣ twirling your hair
3️⃣ bouncing your leg
4️⃣ clicking a pen
5️⃣ chewing the inside of your cheek
6️⃣ rubbing fabrics or objects
7️⃣ pacing while thinking
8️⃣ cracking your knuckles

A lot of people with ADHD or autism were told to stop doing these things growing up, so now they do them quietly and automatically.

If you’re curious whether ADHD or autism could be part of your story… Comment “SCREENER” and we’ll send our FREE ADHD/ASD screener directly to your inbox. 💛

Every comment on our giveaway was a real person.

A parent trying to help their child. An adult who’s been waiting years. Someone who’s exhausted from being told to “just cope”.

That’s not demand.

That’s a system leaving people without support.

We’re a not-for-profit. We keep our fees as low as we can, offer payment plans, and try to support families on low incomes wherever possible. But we also know that for many people, even that still feels out of reach.

And that hurts.

Because needing answers about your brain shouldn’t depend on luck, money, or how long you can survive without help.

If this post feels close to home, you’re not alone.

We see this all the time...

Women coming to us saying, “I think I’m too old to be assessed.”
But when we talk properly, it’s almost always the same story 💛

They’ve coped for decades. Masked. Pushed through. Held everything together. Been the reliable one, the good girl all their lives...

Then menopause hits 🧠

Hormones change, energy drops, emotions feel louder, sensory stuff becomes harder… and suddenly the coping strategies that worked for years just don’t anymore.

A lot of women tell us, “I used to manage. I don’t know what’s wrong with me now.”

Nothing is wrong with you.
Masking just isn’t possible forever and wanting answers at 40, 50 or 60 isn’t late...

One of the things people tell us they’re most nervous about is “being sold to.”

We get it.

That’s why our onboarding team is made up of real people with lived experience. Parents. Neurodivergent adults. People who have waited on the same lists as you have…

You’re not a sale to us. You’re a person, and one that deserves to be listened to. 💛

So many autistic women never got picked up as children.

Because they were:
💛 polite and quiet
💛 high-achieving
💛 desperate not to be a problem
💛 brilliant at copying everyone else

But, inside, they were overwhelmed and no one noticed.

Years later, those same girls become women who:
– overthink every conversation
– rehearse what to say
– feel constantly “too much” and “not enough”
– burn out easily
– struggle with noise, change, conflict, or social situations
– feel like life is harder for them than it should be

You don’t have to be in a crisis to deserve answers.

If any of this feels familiar, it might be time to explore it properly.

Do you know how long NHS ADHD and autism waiting lists are right now?

For many people, it’s between 4-8 years. And some high funcitioning neurodivergent people are turned down completely.

For children, that can mean going through school without support.

For adults, it can mean burning out, losing jobs, or watching their mental health slowly unravel.

So when we post giveaways, the comments aren’t just “I’d like to win.”

They were stories of people who can’t afford to go private but can’t survive the wait either.

That’s the reality behind it.

We’re not-for-profit, meaning we keep our fees as low as we possibly can.

We offer payment plans. We try to support people on low incomes wherever we’re able. But we can’t undo a broken system on our own.
And one day, we hope free healthcare won’t need to come from a competition, but be accessible to everyone who needs it.

Which do you relate to most? 👇🏾

04/02/2026

The messages we see again and again are 👇🏾

“Am I too old to be assessed?”
“I’m probably too old to matter.”

The irony is… the women asking this are usually the same women who have spent their entire lives masking.

💛 Being polite
💛 Not wanting to take up space
💛 Not wanting to be a burden
💛 Putting everyone else first
People-pleasers to the core.

Even now, when they’re exhausted, burnt out, struggling… they’re still trying to be “easy”. Still trying not to ask for too much. Still wondering if they’re allowed to matter.

It breaks our hearts 💔

Because you don’t stop deserving understanding at a certain age.

And actually, for many women, things get harder later in life, not easier.

Hormonal changes, especially around menopause, can make coping strategies fall apart. Masking becomes physically impossible.

Because your nervous system has been working overtime for decades.
Wanting to understand your brain at 38, 48 or 58 is brave.

If this feels like you, comment ADULT and we’ll send you our free ADHD/Autism screener 🧠

Some signs deserve a closer look... ⤵️

You’re not imagining your child’s struggles.

Many neurodivergent children don’t show the “classic” signs people expect, so parents often spot the patterns long before school do.

1️⃣ Emotional outbursts that feel like a toddler tantrum

2️⃣ Hearing tests that come back normal but they still “don’t listen.”

3️⃣ Humming, spinning, pacing, constant movement
4️⃣Strong sensory needs

5️⃣Food that must be exactly right

6️⃣Fussing about certain clothing

These are all signs of a neurodivergent nervous system trying to cope.

And when parents finally receive a diagnosis, they say the same thing:
“I knew I wasn’t going mad.”

If something feels different, it’s worth exploring.

If you’ve seen the headlines claiming “ADHD is overdiagnosed”… read this. ⤵️

Because when you work in this field every single day, the truth looks very different.

The rise in ADHD and Autism diagnoses isn’t because people suddenly “developed” neurodivergence in the last five years.

It’s because for the first time:
💛 Clinicians understand the full spectrum of presentations
💛 Women, AFAB people and “quiet” children are finally being recognised
💛 Masking, anxiety, perfectionism and internal distress are no longer dismissed
💛 People feel safer seeking answers instead of hiding their struggles

For decades, huge groups of neurodivergent people were missed, misdiagnosed, or told their difficulties were personality flaws, mental health problems, or bad habits.

And when you look beyond the headlines, the pattern becomes clear:
People aren’t flooding services for no reason. They’re doing it because they’re exhausted from coping alone.
They want clarity, support, accommodations and a way forward - not labels for the sake of it.

The wait time for an ADHD assessment on the NHS, is currently 4 YEARS.
We can assess you within 3 WEEKS.

If you’ve spent years wondering why things feel harder for you than everyone else…
There may be a reason you’ve never been given.
