In our latest webinar, our autism clinician Jess Birchall explained the steps involved in an autism assessment process. The journey to an autism diagnosis can be complex and overwhelming, requiring a compassionate, systematic and collaborative approach.
Jess covered lots of questions we often hear, particularly on the assessment experience for children.

Our November webinar will explore what is involved in the autism assessment process, with a focus on children and adolescents.

The session will be hosted by our highly experienced autism clinician Jess Birchall, who is clinically trained in the ADI-R and ADOS assessment tools for autism. Jess is also a specialist teacher qualified in supporting young people with autism in educational settings.

She will cover the autism assessment stages and tools, explaining the process, steps and experience from both a child and parent perspective.

Considerations surrounding the initial decision to assess will also be discussed, with a balanced view of the possible impacts of a diagnosis.

In our October webinar Hannah Creaven, ADHD nurse prescriber addressed the common question of "what happens next?" after an ADHD diagnosis.

The answer is ADHD treatment is personalised and the best approach depends on a child’s needs, age, and circumstances.

Treatment is a journey and aims to improve daily functioning, emotional wellbeing, and quality of life — not just reduce symptoms.

It is important to know ‘treatment for ADHD,’ is not just about medication. Diagnosed children require a whole-child approach that supports emotional, educational, and practical needs.

This may include:
*Behavioural and psychological support – such as therapy to build emotional regulation or social skills.

*Educational interventions – working with school to make the classroom a safe and supportive space.

*Parent training programmes – giving families the tools to handle challenges at home with more confidence.

*Lifestyle changes – including sleep, exercise, nutrition and routines.

*Medication, when appropriate.

It’s not about doing everything at once. Often it’s about starting with small steps, adding one or two supports that really make a difference, and building from there.

As today marks the start of ADHD Awareness month, our October webinar will focus on the treatment options available following an ADHD diagnosis.

Following on from her "Understanding ADHD" webinar earlier this year, this is a further opportunity to hear from our highly experienced ADHD Nurse Prescriber Hannah Creaven.

She will share information about ADHD medication and the wider therapeutic treatments available alongside - or as alternatives to medication.

The session is aimed at parents and professionals with a focus on post-diagnosis support for children and adolescents.

The webinar will also provide helpful context about treatment pathways for those considering an ADHD assessment.

Our free monthly webinar series is back this September - starting with a session exploring Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA).

As the start of the school year approaches, experiencing some anxiety about school is very normal for children and young people, particularly at transition points such as a new term or during exams. However for some young people, this anxiety can become overwhelming and result in the avoidance of school.

This is referred to as Emotionally Based School Avoidance which highlights the emotional factors underlying attendance difficulties.

Aimed at parents, carers and professionals, this webinar will explore the definition, risk factors and signs of EBSA, highlighting available interventions and support.

The session will be hosted by Dr Mollie Higgins, a child and educational psychologist with specialist experience of helping young people with school avoidance difficulties.
