Dear Dental Sedation Colleague,

🔹️ The Intercollegiate Advisory Committee for Sedation in Dentistry (IACSD) is currently reviewing the Standards for Sedation in Dentistry, which will determine the future of dental sedation.

🔹️ To help the committee make informed decisions, it is vital they have a clear picture of the current state of dental conscious sedation practice nationally.

🔹️ The Association of Dental Anaesthetists and Sedationists (ADAS) is facilitating this with a national survey on current dental conscious sedation practices.

🔹️ If you are a dentist or a doctor, providing dental conscious sedation to children and/or adult patients in primary and/or secondary care, please complete the survey.

🔗 Complete the survey- scan the QR code or follow link in our bio!

✨️All survey responses must be received before 17:00 on Thursday 18th September 2025✨️

Thank you again to Resuscitation Consultancy Medical Services for sponsoring our conference earlier this year.

RCMS provide valuable training to healthcare professionals across the UK. They support teams to attain Immeadiate life support training and rehearsal of rescue in the dental setting so that they work safely and in line with IACSD guidelines.

A great day with lots of interest on their services and one lucky winner even won a free grab bag (pictured bottom right) that RCMS very kindly donated to us.

We hope to see the RCMS team again next year!

Thank you to wonderful team from .uk who were Gold sponsors for our 2025 ADAS conference.

We are extremely grateful to Martin Lees, Craig Cook and Andreia Trigo took time out of their immensely busy schedules to support our event.

Sedate UK provide training for medics, dentists and healthcare professionals in sedation around the UK both in Hospital and primary care with 'The Safe Sedation Course'. They also offer numerous other courses such as cannulation, sedation trainer courses and safe sedation champion for managers and leads.

Their values promote delivering sedation safely, team training, audit and accountability.

Their very own 'Sedlog' app is downloadable by anyone and is recommended to be used by all sedation providers so that we can all contribute to the development and review of National dental sedation guidelines based on accurate and current mass data collection specifically in sedation in the UK.

Thank you to Prof Chris Frerk, consultant anaesthetist and chair of Clinic Human Factors Group, a charity founded by Martin Bromiley in 2007. CHFG is a group of experts in Human Factors who work with service-users and professionals to campaign for change in the NHS and healthcare.

Chris delivered a captivating lecture to our audience educating us on what human factors science is, recognising some of the reasons why things can and do go wrong, particularly in dental sedation when teams are not working together daily and located in isolated primary care sites. He emphasizes that clinical knowledge and good technical skills alone are not enough to keep you safe.

His interactive exercises on the day quickly illustrated why daily work pressures and complacency in healthcare teams can lead to errors, irrespective of the grade of clinician, their experience and the heirachies that exist in hospital culture. He refreshed our knowledge on the ' swiss cheese' model and what leads to significant events occuring and empowers all members of the team to prevent these occurrences.

He shared valuable human factors tools that anyone can use to help make their work even safer than it already is.

Thank you Prof Frerk for a fascinating and invaluable lecture for our audience.

If anyone working in healthcare hasn't heard of Martin Bromiley please watch his video "just a routine operation" to gain more insight into the importance of Human Factors

A huge thank you to the team for being our platinum sponsors for this year's ADAS conference. Without the generosity and support of our sponsors this event would not have been such a huge success.

They also provided a wonderful gift hamper to a lucky winner 🏆 selected from all those who completed their survey on the day.
