It feels like we blinked and suddenly the first month of the new year has already passed...

As we settle into the rhythm of 2026, we're still having conversations about how this year, things will be different.

Recently, we spoke with one of our long‑standing community partners, Race Council Cymru, about what meaningful, community‑centred research really looks like in practice.

Here's what they said ☝

As we head into 2026, we’re being more intentional about the language we use and the language we leave behind.

Some phrases might sound positive on the surface, but end up being vague and performative. And when the words are unclear, the action usually is too.

We need to be more specific and intentional with our language so that we all understand what we’re advocating for and how our work will drive positive change.

Less fluff typically means more meaning!

Here are a few words and phrases Egality are definitley leaving behind in 2025...

As we step into a new year, the headlines feel heavy. There’s a sense of uncertainty as systems are under strain, communities are bearing the brunt, and the future feels a bit more fragile than hopeful.

And yet, the start of a new year also brings fresh strategies, new funding cycles and renewed ambition to do better for everyone's health. These are the moments where decisions are made, and the direction of work is shaped.

For those of you starting off 2026 with developing your research, planning community engagement, designing a clinical trial, or just curious about inclusive research & training, we’d love to be a part of your journey. This is the work we care deeply about, and the work we do best!

So, if equity is on your agenda this year (as it should be every year), our inbox is open. Let’s talk.

Some of you may already know our faces and names… but we thought it was time to answer the really important questions you’ve all been dying to know 👀

Like, what’s our favourite font? Which snack fuels our creativity? And what keeps us going when the work gets hard?

As the year comes to a close, we wanted to properly introduce (or re-introduce) the people behind Egality, the humans doing the thinking, listening, learninag and building alongside our partners and communities.

A few weeks back we hosted another event in our Equity Exchange series, this time disucssing malicious responses in research.

When online recruitment meets trolling, racist attacks, and imposter sign-ups, the instinct is to build more barriers. However, the panel discussed quite the opposite, trust-led, co-designed safeguards that protect people and data, without excluding the communities research is meant to serve.

Thanks again to our amazing speakers and to anyone who joined the conversation.

No worries if you missed this or the other events in the series, as we have everything recorded. Check the link in our bio to catch up!

Help shape rare disease policy in England.

The RareCare project, a national study funded by the NIHR, has launched a survey to better understand the real-life experiences of people affected by rare conditions and to assess whether England’s Rare Disease Action Plans are leading to improvements in the four priority areas: faster diagnosis, coordination of care, access to treatment and support, and awareness and education among healthcare professionals.

If you are living with a rare disease in England, caring for someone who is, or working in the rare disease field, we want to hear from you.

🗣 Your experience matters.
The survey is anonymous, takes 20–30 minutes to complete, and your responses will provide the wider context for the project’s research findings.

As awareness week and UK Disability History Month overlap to highlight the realities of invisible illness and the people working to bring them into view.

We’re honoured to share the words of , a leading UK patient advocate and Chief Digital Officer at .gi, who reflects on living with Crohn’s for over twenty years. From the unpredictability, the delays, the cultural stigma, and the emotional labour of navigating a system that misunderstands what it cannot see.

A huge thank you to Sharan for her honesty, her expertise and her continued efforts to improve awareness and access for those living with IBD.

Today kicks off Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Week, a time to bring awareness to what it’s really like to live with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

In the UK, more than 500,000 people, that’s roughly around 1 in every 120, are living with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.

The goal of this week is to transform people's understanding of the reality of living with Crohn's or Colitis.

We understand the importance of sharing these stories, so we collaborated on a project centring people with lived experiences' voices.

A few months back, we launched the first event in our new Equity Exchange series, and it was a huge success! For us, success means sparking conversations and fresh ideas, and we hope it did the same for you.

Our panellists shared powerful insights and expertise on how to turn meaningful ideas into equitable actions to (re) build long-term relationships between communities and the pharmaceutical sector.

They offered plenty of practical ways to move forward, so we wrapped up our top five takeaways for you to share with your team, your organisation, and beyond.

Missed the event? No problem! You can catch the full recording—and explore other sessions in the Equity Exchange series—via the link in our bio.

One week countdown until our second Equity Exchange session: Trust & Truth: Addressing Fraudulent Participation in Online Research.

We’re excited to introduce the hosts who will be guiding the discussion:

✨ Beatriz Lacerda Ratton – Project & Partnerships Manager at Egality
✨ Dr Jack López – Social & Behavioural Change Consultant at TransActual

They’ll be leading an important conversation on how to keep online research safe and inclusive; tackling bots, fake identities and malicious responses without excluding the communities we need to hear from most.

We’re really proud to share a project that means a lot to us.

Over the past few months, we’ve worked alongside Macmillan, NHS Race & Health Observatory and Roche to help make breast cancer clinical trial information clearer, more inclusive and actually reflective of the people it’s meant to serve.

Thank you for all the work carried out by our community partners on this project and @ !

It’s the kind of work that reminds us why inclusive research matters and what’s possible when communities lead the way.

Did you know? One-size-fits-all outreach fits… no one.

Communities have different histories with research, different barriers to access, and different needs. Which means effective outreach must be tailored, co-designed, and grounded in lived experience.

Swipe to learn why nuance matters and how small shifts in approach can transform who feels welcomed into research.
