Although it can look like everyone’s having an amazing time in the early days of university, for many people it’s quite a lonely experience.

It can be tempting to use drugs or alcohol to combat this loneliness, or to build up your confidence around new people. But that can make the loneliness worse, and the comedown or hangover can leave you feeling awful.

There are plenty of other ways you can meet people, like:

🎭 Joining a university society, club or organised activity

☕ Asking someone in a lecture if they’d like to go for coffee afterwards

🏉 Joining a sports group

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day — a time to honour those we’ve lost, support those affected, and share knowledge that can save lives. 💭

Overdose is preventable. Knowing what to do in an emergency could save someone’s life. Following an overdose, quick action can restore breathing, keep them safe until help arrives, and give them a chance to recover.

That’s why we’re sharing practical steps anyone can follow if they believe someone has overdosed. From checking their responsiveness, to calling 999, to administering naloxone if available, every step matters. 👣

At Ealing RISE we believe nobody should have to face substance use alone. We provide support, harm reduction advice, and recovery services across England for individuals and families.

On this day of remembrance and action, let’s stand together as one big family, driven by hope. By raising awareness, carrying naloxone, and knowing how to respond, we can all play a part in ending overdoses.
