Hello!
Thank you for visiting our page!
We would like to invite you to take part in a study investigating the impact of exercise (3 times a week) on memory function, the production of new brain cells, and the gut microbiota.
We are looking for healthy participants who fulfil the following criteria:
A) 45 – 65 years old
B) BMI 20 – 30
C) Does not exercise more than 90 minutes a week
D) Does not have a regular exercise routine
If you appear to fit the required criteria, you will be invited to attend a screening visit at the Maudsley Hospital (Denmark Hill, SE5 8AZ) which will take approximately 1 hour. If the results from the screening visit confirm your eligibility you will need to be available to attend 2 study visits over a 12-week period. Furthermore, you will also be asked to attend a follow up study visit 12 weeks after you complete the study. These study visits will last approximately 1.5 hours. All visits will require you be fasted and take place in the morning. The earliest appointment we offer is 8am and the latest is 11am.
You have a 50% chance of being in the group exercise group or the control group. If you are allocated to the exercise group, you will also be required to attend 3 online exercise classes per week. These classes will be held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at a time that best suits you. If you are allocated to the control group, you will be asked to continue with your normal routine.
Participation in the study will involve providing fasted blood samples, providing stool samples, filling in questionnaires, a fitness test, body measurements and completing computer-based memory tasks.
We will compensate you with £100 upon successful completion of the study and up to £10 of travel expenses per study visit with a valid receipt.
