Heavers court supporting residents with Symmetrical Butterfly Painting and Card-Making for their Loved Ones. we used a fun and creative method called symmetrical painting. The residents folded their papers in half, added small blobs of paint on one side, then gently pressed and unfolded the paper to reveal a beautiful mirror image. On the front side, we turned these colourful designs into handmade cards for their closest loved ones, adding stickers and decorations to make each one special and personal.

Today Heavers Court welcomed the Spare Tyres Theatre Company, a charity that delivers sensory workshops for people living with dementia.
The session began with a lively warm-up to music, which got everyone moving and in great spirits. The theme for today was nature, and residents thoroughly enjoyed getting creative with their art projects. Activities included printing leaves with paint to create beautiful patterns, and using marker pens to add colourful and interesting effects to the leaves.
Residents also had the opportunity to explore and handle a variety of natural objects such as twigs and acorns, enhancing the sensory experience.
The session was filled with smiles and laughter — everyone had a fantastic time, and the atmosphere was joyful and engaging throughout.

On Wednesday 13th November, our lifestyle team organised a small initiative as part of World Kindness Day to encourage our lovely staff to show their appreciation for one another and their dedication to helping our residents to Live Well with Dementia through kindness!

Although our staff practice kindness every day and commit daily "acts of kindness" as part of their warm and devoted approach to care, this fun initiative allowed us to strengthen staff and resident rapport and got us thinking outside the box.

Staff picked from envelopes containing different random acts of kindness and a pink heart on which to write their appreciation for another staff member.

Their heartfelt messages inspired feelings of gratitude between staff and helped foster a culture of mutual acknowledgement of our team work.

This little challenge was met with enthusiasm as staff participated in...
- Putting on a resident's favourite music and having a boogie
- Arranging a phone call between a resident and their loved one
- Supporting a resident to make their own cup of tea (just how they like it!)
- Braiding and styling a resident's hair to give them a fresh hairstyle
- Taking a resident out for a walk in the garden
- Giving a resident a relaxing hand massage
- Painting a resident's nails in a fancy colour

And many more!

In the spirit of Harvest Festival and as part of this year’s celebrations, Heavers Court care home collected food donations from staff, residents and their relatives and friends to support:
Guiding Hands Organisation CIC
– a local foodbank carrying out inspiring work delivering free food parcels to those most in need in our area.

Our residents collaborated on decorating our donation box by painting, cutting out and arranging autumnal leaves.
The outpour of support was heart-warming, as our donation box quickly filled up with tins, cans, jars, pasta, rice, biscuits, crackers… you name it!

Two of our lovely residents then helped us to drop off the donations, which were welcomed with warmth and gratitude.

We are so pleased we were able to give back to the community in this small way with help from all the wonderful staff, residents and relatives at Heavers 😊
