Today is World Acupuncture Day, a celebration of one of the world’s oldest healing traditions and the incredible impact it continues to have on health and wellbeing.

At its heart, acupuncture is about balance — supporting the body’s natural ability to heal, regulate, and restore itself.
Whether it’s easing stress, improving sleep, supporting fertility, managing pain, or helping you feel more grounded in daily life, acupuncture offers a gentle, personalised approach to care.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted acupuncture as part of their health journey.
Here’s to a medicine that has supported millions for thousands of years — and continues to make a difference every single day. ✨

🌿 World Kindness Day 🤍
A reminder that the smallest acts of kindness can shift our whole internal landscape.

In East Asian medicine, kindness isn’t just an idea — it’s nourishment.
It soothes the Heart, grounds the Shen (spirit), and helps the whole body soften out of “fight or flight” and back into balance.

Today, offer yourself a moment of kindness too.

✨ A slower breath
✨ A cup of tea
✨ A kind word to your own body
✨ A pause before rushing into the next thing

Kindness is medicine. For ourselves, for each other, for our wider community.

How will you show kindness today? 💛

Health Tree Acupuncture supports World Mental Health Day 2025 💚

Today, 10 October, we join the global movement to shine a light on mental health — especially in times of crisis. The theme this year is “Access to Services — Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies.”

We believe that no one should have to struggle alone — not during “normal” times, and certainly not during emergencies.

What this means to us:

When people are displaced, traumatised, or living with uncertainty, emotional wounds may last long after the physical ones heal.

It’s vital to embed mental health support into humanitarian responses, community rebuilding, and long-term care systems.

We’re advocating for better funding, better infrastructure, and more inclusive services so that mental health support is accessible to those who need it most — especially in disrupted contexts.

Take a moment today — check in with yourself, check in with others, share a kind word, or reach out. Together we can build a world where help is within reach — always. 💛

Migraines aren’t just “bad headaches” — they can take over your whole day. A new study from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has shed light on how acupuncture helps: from calming inflammation to rebalancing the brain.

We’ve broken down the research in clear, patient-friendly language so you can see what’s happening inside the body and brain when you have acupuncture for migraines.

Research from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine suggests that acupuncture may reduce migraines by calming inflammation, improving brain energy balance, and resetting pain pathways. This study demonstrates that acupuncture is more than a placebo — it produces measurable changes in ...

✨Acupuncture Point Spotlight: Spleen 6 (Sanyinjiao / Three Yin Intersection) ✨

Spleen 6 is another widely used acupuncture point – and for good reason.

💡 Why it’s important:

Called the “Three Yin Intersection,” this point is where the spleen, liver, and kidney channels meet – making it powerful for treating multiple systems of the body.

🌱 Benefits include:

✅ Supporting digestion & clearing dampness (heaviness, swelling, oedema)

✅ Regulating menstrual & gynaecological conditions

✅ Helping urinary issues (difficulty urinating)

✅ Calming the mind for anxiety & insomnia

✅ Nourishing overall strength and balance

✨ This point has such a broad range of applications that many acupuncturists (myself included) use it in treatment regularly.

📍 How to find it:

🔸Located on the inside of your leg.

🔸Measure four finger-widths above the highest point of your ankle bone.

🔸The point lies just behind the shin bone, in a tender hollow.

💆‍♀️ Self-care tip:

Try gentle acupressure at home
Press the point until you feel a mild tenderness.
Breathe deeply, and hold for 1–2 minutes, repeat a few times.

✨ Acupuncture Point Spotlight: Heart 7 (Shenmen / Spirit Gate) ✨

Heart 7 is one of my favourite points to use in clinic for sleep issues and anxiety linked to overthinking. 🌙

💡 Why it matters:
This point is known to:

✅ Calm the mind & spirit

✅ Ease anxiety, agitation, depression & sadness

✅ Support restful sleep & reduce palpitations

✅ Help with arrhythmia & other heart-related imbalances

📍 How to find it:
On the inner wrist crease, in line with the little finger. Feel for a small hollow on the radial side of the wrist bone (pisiform).

💆‍♀️ Try acupressure at home:

🔸Use gentle circular pressure for 2–3 minutes.

🔸Start with the left wrist, then the right.

🔸Take slow, deep breaths as you focus on your heart.

A beautiful point to restore calm and bring yourself back into balance. 💚

✨ Acupuncture Point Spotlight: Large Intestine 4 (Hegu) ✨

Large Intestine 4, also known as Joining Valley, is found in the fleshy area between your thumb and index finger.

This versatile point is commonly used for:

🌱 Headaches & migraines
🌱 Sinus congestion, colds & runny nose
🌱 Toothache & facial pain
🌱 Constipation & digestive support

⚠️ Important note: LI4 is contraindicated in pregnancy, so avoid using this point if you are expecting.

Often, LI4 is paired with Liver 3 (see our last post!). Together, they form the Four Gates – a powerful combination that promotes smooth circulation throughout the body. 🌿

Liver 3 works more on the lower body

Large Intestine 4 on the upper body
Together, they can ease stagnation-related symptoms such as pain, constipation, irregular periods, and feelings of frustration or being “stuck.”

💆‍♀️ Try acupressure at home:

Locate the fleshy spot between your thumb & index finger.

Press firmly until you find a tender spot.

Apply pressure for ~30 seconds, then release.

Repeat a few times, focusing more on the tender side.

A simple way to relieve tension and restore balance in your day. 💚

✨ Acupuncture Point Spotlight: Liver 3 (Taichong) ✨

Liver 3 is one of the most commonly used points in acupuncture – and for good reason! 🌿

Located on the foot, between the 1st and 2nd toes, this point is known for its ability to:
🌱 Calm anxiety & stress
🌱 Relieve menstrual cramps & pain
🌱 Support better sleep
🌱 Ease feelings of tension or being "stuck"

It’s often paired with Large Intestine 4 (on the hand, between the thumb & index finger). Together, this duo is called the Four Gates – a powerful combination that encourages the smooth flow of Qi and blood, helping both body and mind feel more balanced and free. ✨

💆‍♀️ Try at home:

While it’s not the same as a professional treatment, you can use acupressure:

Find the spot between your 1st & 2nd toes.

Slide your thumb until you feel a small hollow before the bone joint.

Apply firm pressure for 4–5 seconds, release, and repeat.

Perfect for moments when you need to reset, release tension, and restore flow. 💚

🍂 Autumn is approaching— and in Traditional Chinese Medicine, this season is all about the Lungs, letting go, and building resilience. Now is a good time to start preparing for the seasonal change.

✨ Moistening foods like pears and almonds, warming cooked meals, and simple rituals such as breathwork can help you stay balanced through the seasonal shift.

Acupuncture supports your body’s immunity, eases dryness, and helps you align with autumn’s energy.

🌿 Ready to feel grounded this season? Book your autumn treatment at Health Tree Acupuncture in Bethnal Green.

✨ Did you know that in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), every food has its own energy?

🥒 Cucumber helps to cool the body in summer.
🌶️ Ginger and chilli are warming, great for when you feel cold or sluggish.
🍚 Rice and sweet potato are neutral — steady, everyday foods that help keep us in balance.

This is called the energetics of food in Traditional Chinese Medicine. By eating in tune with your body and the seasons, you can support energy, digestion, mood, and overall wellbeing — all from your kitchen.
