The findings from the Global Radiologist Report 2025 are still as relevant as ever, providing a sobering look at the challenges facing the profession.
After surveying over 700 consultant radiologists across 50 countries, the data highlighted a field at a breaking point. Burnout was the top concern for 53% of respondents, closely followed by workforce shortages and the "brain drain" of locally trained clinicians.
Key insights from the report included:
Impact of night shifts: 63% of radiologists believed overnight work negatively impacts their performance and well-being, while 47% felt it reduces diagnostic accuracy.
Teleradiology as a lifeline: 98% of radiologists recognized the benefits of teleradiology, particularly for clearing backlogs and reducing workload pressure.
The AI gap: While interest was high, 57% of radiologists did not yet use AI routinely, viewing it primarily as a supportive tool rather than a replacement for human expertise.
At Everlight Radiology, these findings reinforce the importance of our "follow the sun" model. By utilising a global network of radiologists, we provide vital 24/7 reporting without forcing clinicians into the grueling night shifts that lead to burnout.
It remains clear that the sustainability of radiology depends on urgent investment in the workforce, smarter technology adoption, and more flexible working models.
