Mind and body are very much like two partners in a relationship.
When working together in harmony, we experience bliss; when they are in a state of disagreement, we experience hardship.
Have you noticed that in the relationship between your mind and body, when things are out of sync, it’s most often because one partner tends to be the over-talker while the other partner tends to be the over-listener❓
It’s very common for us to experience our mind in the relationship as the over-talker. The mind uses thoughts and ideas to communicate with the body, and when it talks, the body can become stressed and anxious.
In our dynamic mind/body relationship, the mind tends to represent the male energy, which enjoys action and activity; it’s task-oriented and likes to problem solve and figure things out efficiently.
In contrast, the physical body tends to represent feminine energy: intuitive, reflective, introspective, emotional, and driven by sensitivity and feelings.
Neither aspect of mind and body is right or wrong, better or worse.
When we are overly stressed by a dominating mind, we may forget to eat and nourish our bodies. We may also deny ourselves adequate time to breathe, relax, restore, and connect to our inner selves. When the mind is exclusively running our lives, we cut off the connection to our physical body’s wisdom and deny it a chance to be in relationship with the mind.
When mind refuses to listen to the body, the body has no choice, but to use desperate measures. Consider that everything we experience in our physical bodies, including yawning, stiffness, aches, diseases such as cancer, and so on are all messages from the body in an attempt to be heard.
To truly honour and listen to the body’s intuitive wisdom, we must slow down physically and mentally. We must create space and be still.
What helps with that?
Yoga practice, meditation, relaxation techniques.
