[Unpaid charitable partnership with British Research Panel]

There are a lot of misconceptions about clinical trials, but most of them simply aren’t true. From informed consent to safety monitoring, ethics reviews, and how placebos actually work, trials are designed to keep participants informed, protected, and supported throughout the process.

If you’re interested in getting involved, you can explore studies on ClinicalTrials.gov, speak to your GP or local hospital, or join communities like the British Research Panel to hear about new opportunities.

🤔🧪 What are Clinical Trials? Doctor explains

[Unpaid charitable partnership with British Research Panel]

Clinical trials help us understand whether new treatments are safe, effective, and better than what we already have. They’re run by trained research teams under strict ethical and safety standards, and each study has its own criteria to make sure participation is appropriate and the results are reliable.

If you’re interested in getting involved, you can explore studies on ClinicalTrials.gov, speak to your GP or local hospital, or join communities like the British Research Panel to hear about new opportunities.

Measles outbreak in London! 😷🇬🇧 Doctor explains what you need to know

Images from - please follow NHS official advice.

Measles cases are rising across England, and health officials are warning that further outbreaks could happen if vaccination rates don’t improve.

Measles is far more contagious - and far more dangerous - than most people realise.

It usually starts with cold‑like symptoms, then small white spots inside the cheeks, followed by a rash.

But the real concern is the complications: pneumonia, meningitis, seizures, blindness.

Tragically, it can be fatal in rare cases, even years after catching the disease due to encephalitis. To find out more about encephalitis, go to - as it is World Encephalitis Day (22 Feb).

In pregnancy, measles can also lead to miscarriage or stillbirth.

The MMR vaccine protects against measles, mumps and rubella. There is no evidence of any link with autism. But UK vaccination rates are now at their lowest point in a decade, which increases the risk of outbreaks.

If you or your child aren’t vaccinated, speak to your GP or local health service. Vaccination is the safest and most effective way to protect yourself and the people around you.

AI Opportunities at 10 Downing Street 🇬🇧🤖

I recently returned to No10 () for the AI Opportunities Anniversary Celebration - exploring how AI is transforming healthcare, especially within the NHS ()

The Prime Minister () spoke about why we need to lean in to the benefits of AI, while appropriately mitigating the risks.

I also spoke with Rt Hon Peter Kyle MP (), now Secretary of State for Business and Trade, about the AI Opportunities Action Plan one year on - and what the future looks like for patients and clinicians.

From AI‑assisted chest X‑rays speeding up diagnosis, to tools that help detect early‑stage cancers with greater accuracy, the potential impact on patient care is enormous. These technologies aren’t abstract or distant - they’re already changing lives.

As AI continues to evolve, the challenge is clear: How do we stay at the forefront of innovation, build public trust, and use these tools responsibly to improve people’s lives?

A long way to go - but so much potential ahead.

🔥🧠 If someone’s brain was on fire... would you know the signs?

🔥 Think brain in FLAMES 🧠 Think encephalitis

I’m really proud to be partnering with the charity for World Encephalitis Day (22 Feb).

Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain - and it can become life‑threatening fast.

According to Encephalitis International, it affects three people every minute globally, yet 77% of people don’t know what it is, leading to delays in diagnosis and poorer outcomes.

That’s why the new acronym FLAMES matters.

It highlights the urgent symptoms seen in both infectious and autoimmune encephalitis:
Flu‑like symptoms,
Loss of consciousness,
Acute headache,
Memory problems,
Emotional or behavioural changes,
Seizures.

Early recognition saves lives - and anyone, anywhere, at any age can be affected.

🔥 Share FLAMES. Help someone recognise the signs. You could save a life.

Here’s my “follow your dreams” speech from outside 10 Downing Street - maybe the most famous door in the world 😂

On your journey, you’ll meet all kinds of people and face all kinds of obstacles.

Some will call you “cringe” (and yes, I know this video is cringe - so what!)

Some won’t understand what you’re doing or why, and they never will.

And sometimes, your biggest supporters will be total strangers.

Your path is your own. And along the way, you’ll find your tribe - the people who get you, who are on a similar mission, who want to build something meaningful too.

They’re proud of you for trying to change the world for the better. And you should be proud of yourself too!

Great to meet PM Sir Keir Starmer again at 10 Downing Street for the AI Opportunities Action Plan one-year anniversary.

And yes, this is the White Room where photos and conferences take place with other heads of state!

As a doctor and clinician creator, I was lucky enough to be selected to create content at this event...

Which makes perfect sense given the emphasis on how AI is revolutionising the NHS and changing patients' and clinicians' lives for the better.

One of the key statistics is that a third of X-rays done within the NHS are now facilitated by AI.

I also had the opportunity to interview Peter Kyle MP, Secretary of State for Business and Trade, and the one who launched the Action Plan last year while he was Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology.

Stay tuned as I will be posting further insights from the evening!
