Yesterday I saw a baby whose parents genuinely thought they’d removed all the dairy and soya… but the symptoms were still there.
When we talked it through properly, we realised:
• Mum was still breastfeeding and still drinking lattes, having cheese sandwiches and yoghurt every day — not knowing these are the heavy dairy sources that matter.
• Baby was still having edamame beans — which are actually soya.
• They’d been told not to worry about Mum’s diet because “dairy doesn’t pass into breastmilk”, which isn’t completely accurate.
This is exactly why one-to-one appointments are so important.
We’re able to break things down properly and explain what actually needs removing:
👉 Remove the big dairy items (glasses of milk, cheese, yoghurt, lattes).
👉 Simple swaps like a latte → Americano, cheese sandwich → ham/chicken/tuna.
👉 But don’t stress about tiny traces of dairy in things like bread, a muffin or a slice of pizza — those small amounts don’t usually cause issues.
Parents are doing their absolute best, but without clear guidance it’s so easy to miss things… or to be told something that isn’t fully accurate.
A proper one-to-one lets us look at the whole picture and make safe, realistic changes that actually help the baby.
