One thing that really landed for me during the talk with at was how our nervous system is basically running a prediction game all day long.
It looks at everything from light to noise to screens to deadlines to training load and even how busy your mind feels then tries to decide what kind of state you need to be in.
If the signals look intense your body stays wired.
If the signals look safe your body can drop into recovery.
When those “intense” signals show up constantly that is where allostatic load builds.
It’s not one big stressor, it’s the drip feed or the accumulation of everyday stuff we stop noticing.
The good news:
Small recovery habits genuinely change the signals.
They tell your system you are safe enough to switch gear, to slow down, to repair and to actually feel well.
It is not about avoiding stress, it is about giving your body the right cues so it doesn’t have to stay on high alert.
