Longevity expert and physician Dr Peter Attia recently spoke on 60 Minutes about his approach to improving quality of life in the marginal decade — the last 10 years of our life.

Through rigorous testing, Attia supports clients to train for older age and increase both their lifespan and healthspan. While ageing may be inevitable, Attia’s approach helps offset the decline associated with older age, helping patients to live better for longer.

What is a healthy body fat percentage?

A healthy body fat percentage is 8-20% for men, and 15-32% for women. Your body fat percentage describes what percentage of your body is made up of fat, as opposed to muscle, bone, water, and other tissues.

A DEXA scan is the gold standard test for body fat and overall body composition, helping you to know whether you fall in that healthy range. If your body fat percentage is outside of this range, the priority will likely be to work on increasing your lean mass -- not necessarily jumping into a huge calorie deficit, which can lead to cutting muscle along with fat.

However, if you do need a calorie deficit to reduce your body fat, make sure to watch to the end for our top 5 tips on how to reduce your body fat percentage safely and efficiently.
