PELVIC FLOOR, BREATH & CLASSICAL PILATES

This is the pelvic floor, primarily the levator ani complex, stretching from the p***c bone to the coccyx like a responsive hammock.

It supports the bladder, uterus, and re**um against gravity and intra abdominal pressure.
It is not passive tissue. It is alive, reactive, and neurologically driven.

The pudendal nerve, the pelvic “wiring”, supplies this area.

In classical Pilates, breath organises this system:

Inhale: diaphragm descends, pelvic floor yields.
Exhale: diaphragm rises, pelvic floor recoils and supports.

This is not bracing, this is rhythm.

True core strength is not constant contraction.
It is the ability to modulate tone, enough tension, enough release.

Classical Pilates restores this coordination.
Not a workout.
A recalibration of the nervous system.

3 years of Pilates with Clara 🩷
(part 1)

Clara booked a private to mark her 3-year Pilates-versary; a chance to work specifically on what her body needs right now.

Today’s class focus was her back: working the muscles both as they lengthen and strengthen, so she can create more space through her spine and access a fuller, easier breath.

You can hear my cues throughout, as she requested 😖😆

I think teaching pilates is an intimate conversation happening between the teacher and the student. Once the language of movement is established the rest is just a flow. Clara just gets what I mean, and together we building awareness, control, and quality of movement that she can take back into her group classes as well as in her daily life.
3 years of brain scratching, sweat pouring and controlled progress.
