Oxytocin otherwise known as the love hormone, this is an essential hormone for pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding.

When released its role is to kick start labour and the rising levels encourage your uterus to contract causing painful contractions. This makes your labour more efficient. In the final stages of your labour you'll get a surge of Oxytocin to help you along the way when pushing.

Oxytocin hangs around after you have delivered your baby, it assists with the let down response during breastfeeding and helps control your bleeding postnatally.

When should I feel my baby move?
Most women usually start to feel their baby move between 16 and 24 weeks of pregnancy. You may feel your baby move as early as 16 weeks of pregnancy, especially if you've been pregnant before. If this is your first pregnancy, you may not notice your baby’s movements until you are more than 20 weeks pregnant.

If you think your baby’s movements have slowed down or stopped, contact your maternity unit immediately. Midwives and doctors are there to help you - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Don't put off calling until the next day or wait until your next scheduled appointment.

We are always happy to hear from you! 🤰🤱

It is important to keep your baby cool when you are out.
Prams and buggies should not be covered with blankets, cloths or any cover that prevents the air circulating.
Covering a pram or buggy with a blanket could lead to overheating, which in creases the chance of sudden infant death syndrome /SIDS/.
Attach a clip-on sunshade to the pram to keep your baby out of direct sunlight and monitor their temperature by feeling their tummy or the back of the neck.

Summer is here! ☀️🌿
We recommend making the most of this beautiful weather to carry out your daily exercises and soak up some much needed vitamin-D.
Follow the tips to keep safe in the sun!
🌞 If you are pregnant it is very important to stay hydrated and keep cool- this helps keep you and your baby well.
🌞 where possible avoid being in direct sunlight.
🌞 Try to stay inside during peak sun hours as much as possible.
🌞 Your skin is incredibly sensitive during pregnancy due to an increase in the production of melatonin. Apply sunscreen at least 15 minutes before you go outside.
Reply every two hours in the sun for long period of time.
🌞 Swollen feet can get worse. In the heat so make sure to keep regularly mobilising or doing ankle exercises and elevate your feet when resting.
