Our guest speaker is Toby Porter, Chief Executive of Hospice UK—the national organisation uniting hospices and palliative care services across the United Kingdom. Toby has over 25 years of experience in healthcare and humanitarian leadership. He previously led Acorns Children's Hospice and HelpAge International and has collaborated with organisations in the UK, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

During the session, Toby will describe how the UK’s national hospice network was established and expanded, the challenges his colleagues faced, and the practical steps that helped create a cohesive ‘umbrella’ organisation linking various institutions. This is the first session in the series, which will continue in early 2026.

We especially invite leaders, coordinators, NGO representatives, and members of professional associations dedicated to advancing palliative care in their regions.

The Programme Committee carefully reviewed all applications and assembled an excellent group of participants and experts — we’re looking forward to an inspiring and busy gathering ahead. We kindly ask everyone who applied to check your email (including the spam folder!)—you should have already received a message with the results!

We sincerely apologise to those who were not selected: unfortunately, we couldn’t invite everyone, but we truly hope to see you at future PACED educational initiatives!

🌍 In late September, PACED Managing Director Roman Sklotskiy participated in the 8th International African Palliative Care & Allied Services Conference, organised by the African Palliative Care Association (APCA).

In his report, he reflects on the development of palliative care across Africa, the shared challenges and solutions with PACED regions, and the importance of international collaboration. ✅ A few additional highlights from PACED’s work in 2024–2025. Today, we’re discussing what unites all our projects and initiatives—the community of palliative care professionals.

Palliative care doesn’t develop in isolation; people build it. They work, support one another, forge connections, and amplify the collective voice of professionals within their countries and beyond. A community is a space where new ideas, projects, and partnerships emerge, where every specialist feels supported by like-minded colleagues who share the same values and objectives.

A gentle reminder that the deadline for applications to the Leadership School is 24 October! The School will be held in Bishkek from 2 to 4 December 2025.
The PACED Leadership School offers an excellent opportunity to meet colleagues from various regions, share experiences, gain new insights and inspiration, and simply spend time with like-minded individuals.
PACED will cover the costs of organising the event, accommodation for participants coming from outside Bishkek, transfers, and part of the meals. Participation is free; you only need to organise your travel to Bishkek.

Today marks one year since the passing of Professor Robert Geoffrey Twycross (29 January 1941 – 20 October 2024)—a pioneer of modern palliative care.
Robert Twycross was a physician, researcher, teacher, and a man of remarkable energy and compassion. In the 1970s, he worked alongside Dame Cicely Saunders and played a vital role in advancing pain relief and symptom management for patients at the end of life. His pioneering work on analgesia and combination therapy has saved millions from unnecessary suffering.
Robert dedicated his life to teaching doctors and nurses worldwide—from the United Kingdom to Asia, Africa, and Eastern Europe. He was a co-founder and trustee of PACED, helping to shape our educational philosophy, where professionalism is merged with humanity and compassion.
Today, we remember Robert Twycross with sincere gratitude—for his clarity of thought, human warmth, and deep respect for life and the dignity of every individual. His legacy continues through the work of all those who learn, teach, and care.

Сегодня — год со смерти профессора Роберта Твайкросса (Robert Geoffrey Twycross, 29 января 1941 — 20 октября 2024) — одного из основоположников современной паллиативной помощи.
Роберт Твайкросс был врачом, исследователем, учителем, профессионалом невероятной энергии и человеколюбия. В 1970-х годах он работал вместе с Сисили Сондерс и внёс решающий вклад в облегчение боли и симптомов у пациентов в конце жизни. Его работы по обезболиванию и комбинированной терапии спасли миллионы людей от страданий.
Роберт посвятил жизнь обучению врачей и медсестёр по всему миру — от Великобритании до Азии, Африки и Восточной Европы. Он был сооснователем и попечителем PACED и помог нам сформировать философию обучения, по которой профессионализм неразрывно связан с человечностью и состраданием.
