Today is Wear a Hat Day 🎩

A simple act with a powerful -raising funds and awareness for brain tumour research, the UK's biggest charity dedicated to finding a cure.

Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40 in the UK. Yet historically, they have received less than 1% of the national spend on cancer research.

That has to change.

This cause is especially close to us right now.

Our patient Angus Woodman is running the London Marathon as tribute for his father who was diagnosed with stage four glioblastoma in 2024.

Angus has had an extraordinary journey to this start line, and we couldn't be prouder to be part of his story. πŸ’›

Today, wear your hat. Share this post. And if you can, donate to Angus's page - every pound goes directly to research that matters.

Big news at Physio Remedies. πŸ™Œ

We've just invested in VALD ForceDecks and VALD Dynamo dynamometry, the same technology trusted by elite sports teams and top physio centres worldwide.

What does that mean for you? No more guessing at progress. We can now measure your strength, power, and movement asymmetries with real precision and track exactly how your body is responding to treatment at every stage.

This is especially game-changing for tendon rehab. Successful tendon rehabilitation isn't just about doing the exercises. It's about a structured, long-term programme guided by objective data - knowing your tendon capacity is genuinely improving, not just hoping it is.

Whether you're managing a chronic injury, recovering post-surgery, or looking to get back to the sport you love, this is rehabilitation built around your numbers, not guesswork.

Tried everything for your tendon pain and still not better? πŸ‘‡

Rest. Stretching. Physio. Maybe even an injection.

And yet the pain keeps coming back the moment you return to activity.

If this sounds familiar, you're not alone. Chronic tendon pain is one of the most common reasons people come through our doors at Physio Remedies in Mayfair - and one of the most misunderstood.

Here's what we know: tendons that have been painful for months don't just need rest. They need the right stimulus to heal - and then a gradual programme to rebuild their strength and load tolerance.

That's exactly what we offer. Using the Piezowave2 - the gold standard in focused shockwave therapy - we target the affected tendon with precision, stimulating deep tissue healing where it's needed most.

We treat:
πŸ‘£ Plantar fasciitis
🦡 Achilles tendinopathy
πŸƒ Patellar tendinopathy
πŸ‘ High hamstring & gluteal tendinopathy
🦴 Shin splints (yes, marathon runners - we see you)

Shockwave is just one part of the picture. Every treatment comes with a progressive loading programme, because that's what makes results last.

Had radial shockwave before with little success? Focused shockwave works differently - and we hear this story a lot.

Not all shockwave therapy is the same and if you've tried it before without success, it's worth understanding why.

There are two types: radial and focused. Radial shockwave disperses energy across a broad surface area. Focused shockwave concentrates high-energy treatment precisely at the injury site, reaching deeper tendon structures and calcific deposits that surface-level treatment simply can't address.

For chronic tendinopathy β€” Achilles, patellar, hamstring, and other persistent tendon conditions, focused shockwave is supported by a stronger body of clinical evidence. It is specifically designed for the kind of precise, high-energy treatment that chronic tendons need to respond.

At Physio Remedies in Mayfair, our shockwave programmes combine focused technology with structured rehabilitation and objective progress tracking, so you know at every stage that your tendon is genuinely improving β€” not just feeling better temporarily.

If you have been living with a persistent tendon injury and previous treatment hasn't delivered results, we'd encourage you to get in touch.

That sharp, stabbing pain with your very first step in the morning. The hobble to the bathroom. The dread of a long day on your feet. πŸ‘£

If this sounds familiar β€” or if someone you love has been dealing with heel pain for months without real relief β€” you're not alone. Chronic plantar fasciitis is one of the most common, and most mismanaged, conditions we see.

Rest helps temporarily. Stretching helps a little. But for many people, the pain just keeps coming back.

Here's what most people aren't told:

πŸ”Έ Plantar fasciitis that won't settle isn't just inflammation β€” the tissue has lost its ability to handle load
πŸ”Έ Stretching without strengthening rarely fixes it long-term
πŸ”Έ The calf, ankle, hip, and even the way you walk all play a role

We don’t just treat the plantar fascia. We assess the whole person and how you move, because when something in the body is out of sync, it’s often the plantar fascia that ends up taking the overload.

We treat heel pain that hasn't responded to standard physiotherapy or self-management, combining Focused Shockwave Therapy (using the clinical-grade Piezowave2 system) with a tailored loading and rehab programme designed around you.

You don't have to just live with it. πŸ’™

Did you know that the way you breathe at night could be affecting the quality of your sleep and how well your body recovers?

Last Saturday is World Sleep Day, and our physiotherapist Philip Harris is sharing something simple that anyone can try tonight.

Breathing through your nose slows everything down and improves how your brain receives oxygen while you sleep.

Breathing with your diaphragm β€” rather than your upper chest β€” releases the tension we carry in our necks and shoulders, and activates the part of the nervous system responsible for rest and relaxation. And simply slowing your breath down, particularly by lengthening your exhale, signals to your body that it's time to let go and drift off.

Nose. Low. Slow.

Philip Harris is an Oxygen Advantage Advanced Instructor with over 25 years of physiotherapy experience.

Recognising the power of efficient functional breathing, Philip can help treat pain, anxiety, recovery and sleep, while also using this technique for supporting both physical and sporting performance.

Give it a try tonight and let us know how you feel in the morning πŸ‘‡

Did you know that for years, most medical and physiotherapy research was carried out almost exclusively on men?

That means many of the rehab programmes and treatment protocols we still use today were developed with a male body in mind and then applied to women too.

But women's bodies work differently. Hormones play a huge role in how our muscles, tendons, and joints respond to injury and treatment. Things like where you are in your menstrual cycle, pregnancy, or going through menopause can significantly affect your recovery.

At Physio Remedies, we believe women deserve treatment that actually accounts for all of that.

This International Women's Day, we want to say it clearly: you are not a smaller version of a male patient. Your treatment shouldn't be either.

If you've ever felt like your recovery wasn't going the way it should, or that your concerns weren't being fully heard, come and talk to us. We're here to help.

Achilles pain that just won’t settle? πŸ‘£

One of the biggest mistakes I see is either:

❌ Not loading it enough
❌ Loading it too much, too soon
❌ Or still stretching a painful tendon

Your Achilles is incredibly strong. When you run, it handles up to 12x your body weight. Rehab needs to reflect that.

Tendinopathy doesn’t improve with rest alone.
And it doesn’t improve with random exercises.

It improves with the right load, at the right time, progressed properly.

If your Achilles pain hasn’t improved, it may not be the tendon β€” it may be the plan.

"Does it hurt?" β€” honestly, it's the first thing most people ask us about shockwave therapy. And it's a fair question. πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ

So let's be upfront: yes, you may feel some discomfort during the treatment. But here's the full picture:

βœ”οΈ Sessions last just 8–12 minutes
βœ”οΈ The intensity is adjusted to your tolerance throughout
βœ”οΈ Any discomfort fades quickly after
βœ”οΈ And for most patients? The temporary sensation is a small price to pay for real, lasting pain relief

We hear it from patients all the time, people who've spent months (sometimes years) managing tendon pain, heel pain, or a shoulder that just won't settle.

A few short sessions later, they're doing things they'd stopped believing they could do again. πŸ™Œ

If you've been putting off treatment because you weren't sure what to expect β€” now you know. It's quick, it's controlled, and it works.

Winter often brings a noticeable increase in musculoskeletal injuries.

Reduced activity, colder temperatures, slips, and seasonal sports all place extra strain on joints and soft tissues. Lower back pain, knee injuries, ankle sprains, and shoulder issues are some of the most common problems we see at this time of year.

Early assessment and targeted rehabilitation can help reduce recovery time and prevent symptoms from becoming long-term.

πŸ‘‰ Appointments and referrals welcome

Foot and ankle pain is rarely resolved by rest alone. Effective rehabilitation requires a structured approach that addresses mobility, strength, balance and overall function.

In clinic, we may use targeted equipment and progressive loading strategies to restore joint mobility, improve calf flexibility, rebuild intrinsic foot strength and enhance proprioception. Where appropriate, we also collaborate with podiatrists for custom orthotic solutions to support long-term outcomes.

Our focus is not simply symptom relief, it is restoring efficient foot mechanics so you can return confidently to sport, work and daily activity.

If you are experiencing ongoing foot or ankle symptoms, or managing a patient who requires specialist input, assessments and referrals are welcome.
