Ramadan is almost here and I’ve had a few patients ask me how their fasting may addect their hormones so I thought I would do a post on this. 🌙
Fasting from dawn to sunset can influence changes in:
-Cortisol (stress + energy)
- Insulin (blood sugar balance)
-Thyroid function
-Female hormones + cycle regularity
-Testosterone (in both men and women)
For many, fasting improves insulin sensitivity and metabolic health. But disrupted sleep, large iftar meals, dehydration or existing hormonal imbalances can make symptoms feel more noticeable.
To support your body during Ramadan:
✨ Prioritise protein
✨ Balance your iftar (less sugar, more fibre + healthy fats)
✨ Hydrate well between sunset and dawn
✨ Protect your sleep
✨ Listen to your body
If you have PCOS, thyroid issues, perimenopause symptoms or are on hormone treatment, personalised support can make all the difference.
