🎃 Happy Halloween from the Hampstead Chiropractic Clinic! 👻

Is your baby getting enough tummy time? Many parents only offer it once or twice a day, but did you know you can place your baby on their tummy every time you put them down — even for just a few seconds or minutes?

The more tummy time your little one gets, the more opportunities they have to build strength, coordination, and the motor skills needed for milestones like rolling, crawling, and sitting up. It also helps prevent flat spots on the head and supports healthy spinal and neck development — allowing your baby to turn their head freely in both directions.

If you notice your baby prefers to look one way or seems to have difficulty turning their head, we’re here to help. Gentle chiropractic care can support proper alignment and mobility so your baby can grow and move comfortably. 💜

Wishing you and your family a spooktacular and healthy Halloween! 🎃🕸️

Moreover, these days, surgery for the back, knee, or shoulder is usually considered a last resort — and rightly so.

Your MRI doesn’t tell your story it only whispers a few lines.
Imaging shows structure, not strength.
It can’t measure resilience, adaptation, or how your body feels and functions.

Far too many surgeries are done because of what’s seen on a screen
tiny “abnormalities” that are often just normal signs of living.
Age-appropriate changes, not emergencies.

Before you rush to fix what may not be broken,
start with movement, education, and a real conversation.
You are not your MRI.
You are more than an image
you are function, healing, and potential in motion

Walking is a great form of exercise! While 10,000 steps is a popular goal, recent studies suggest that benefits begin at a lower number, with around 4,000 steps showing a reduced risk of premature death. For a more comprehensive view, aim for at least 7,000-8,000 steps to see significant health improvements, though any amount over sedentary levels (under 5,000 steps) is beneficial. The ideal number depends on age, fitness level, and health conditions, so it is best to start with a realistic goal and gradually increase from there.
Go on and get some fresh air! 🏃🌳⛳️!!

A study conducted by researchers at the University of Leicester found that people who consistently walked at a brisk pace (faster than 4 mph) had a biological age equivalent to being 16 years younger than their chronological age, compared to those with a slower walking speed (under 3 mph).

Telomeres are repetitive DNA sequences or “caps” at the ends of chromosomes that protect them from damage during cell division. As cells divide over time, telomeres shorten, eventually leading to cellular senescence (when cells can no longer divide) and contributing to age-related diseases.

Research has revealed that a faster walking pace, particularly exceeding 4mph, is associated with longer telomeres. This shows that walking at a brisk pace helps slow down the rate at which telomeres shorten, thud delaying the onset of age-related diseases and slowing down aging.

The benefits of walking on telomeres length seem to be more pronounced with increased intensity, meaning faster walking speeds. This suggests that it’s not just about the total steps taken, but also how quickly those steps are taken.

Other studies have linked brisk walking to longer life expectancy, with one study in particular finding that brisk walker’s might actually have up to 20 years’ greater life expectancy compared to slow walkers.

“The forces involved in a normal spontaneous delivery have been measured to be approximately 29 pounds of pressure on the delicate newborn head and spine. In the event of a more complicated delivery involving the use of forceps or vacuum extraction, the measured forces are up to 69 pounds of pressure (1). Compare that to 56 pounds of pressure reported to cause a whiplash type “sheering force in the cervical spine” of a fully formed adult head and spine (2). Putting those forces into perspective, you can see how the birth process can dramatically affect the delicate spine and cranium of the newborn.

I would be remiss here if I didn’t mention that the proper alignment of the mother’s pelvis and her fully functioning nervous system are critical factors in the outcome of birth. Prenatal chiropractic care can help to avoid birth trauma before it happens.” – Lynn Gerner, DC, FICPA

Many of our patients ask if they should have their children checked. Absolutely! Kids today are sitting for such long periods of time and from a very young age! Consider us a dentist for the spine and posture, helping before it becomes a problem! If you are concerned with your child’s posture, or they are complaining of aches and pains, headaches or just want to do better at sport, we are here to help. Our team are paediatric trained and start as young as new born!

The Posture Crisis of Our Time

A silent transformation is unfolding before our eyes — the rise of hyperkyphosis driven by excessive screen use. What was once an age-related deformity is now reshaping the posture of teenagers and young adults, their spines bending under the weight of digital dependence.

Prolonged hours hunched over devices are not just changing how we look, but how our bodies function — leading to chronic pain, restricted breathing, nerve impingement, and lasting spinal damage.

This isn’t just a cosmetic issue; it’s a growing health crisis born from our modern habits. The future of a generation is quite literally bending forward.
