Bromley by Bow Centre

Bromley by Bow Centre An innovative community organisation based in East London.

The Bromley by Bow Centre is an innovative community organisation in East London, working in one of the most deprived wards in the UK. We support families, young people and adults of all ages to learn new skills, improve their health and wellbeing, find employment and develop the confidence to achieve their goals and transform their lives. At the core of the Centre’s thinking is our belief in people and their capacity to achieve amazing things.

Recent figures show that 70% of children in our borough of Tower Hamlets live in poverty. This is the worst in England and should shock us all into renewed action.

The focus, aptly so, for this year’s Fuel Poverty Awareness Day is children living in fuel poverty.

Put simply, the health of kids living in cold, damp homes is massively compromised and affects future life chances.

On the day, Wednesday 26 November from 10am-4pm, we’re hosting an information stall in our Welcome Hub. Please drop in to speak with our energy advisors and see what help is available this winter.

Warm packs (while stocks last!) with a few items to help you through the winter will be available to residents who come for information.

For more, visit our energy advice page where you’ll find information and contact details:

We, and our longstanding partners and , see every day how urgent this work is. Thanks to everyone who supports us in alleviating fuel poverty in and around our area of East London.

Nine years ago, Diye broke his leg outside Blackfriars station while walking from the underground to his work. It was raining heavily. It was a bad break. Diye’s health and life took a challenging turn.

After the initial recovery, he kept working for as long as he could, to maintain some purpose and to pay off his mum’s mortgage.

But after a while it all got too much. Diye could no longer work. Seriously difficult times were to come, but he persevered.

Last year, a close friend of Diye’s mum and regular at the Bromley-by-Bow Centre handed him a flyer for the centre.

“She told me, ‘Look, even if you don’t like it or if you don’t want to go, at least try it out.’”

It was the beginning of something new.
