Julia Quick Acupuncture Acupuncture and Bodywork for health and wellbeing I have been and acupuncturist for a long time. People come with many different needs, and goals.

I usE my skills with various acupuncture techniques, bodywork (Zero Balancing), and including meditation and relaxation techniques to enable my clients. To be rid of annoying symptoms, or to feel more at ease and comfortable in their skin. Full well being and ease are my aims for all. I work out of West Dulwich at the moment and may return to Borough when Carona is more under control.

BODYWORK WITH YOUR EYES

In Zero Balancing, we don't just "look" at our clients. We commit to "seeing" them and what they do in response to ZB. The bodywork that is done is ultimately THEIR work, not ours. It proceeds from inside out. But we can see the trajectories of their inner work through changes in breathing, movement, facial expression, etc. This sensory aspect is an essential capacity emphasized by Zero Balancing. Learning Zero Balancing will give you a much deeper level of knowledge and skill in seeing and responding to these "working signs."

"While with an eye made quiet by the power
Of harmony, and the deep power of joy,
We see into the life of things"
~ William Wordswoth

I've heard a study was done of films of Feldenkrais, Trager and Ida Rolf working. The study was looking for what made them masterful, what distinguished their work from their students. It turns out they were not apparently "doing" any different moves than their students. What they were observed to be doing, quite differently, is they were paying attention to the client, "tracking" the client with a far higher degree of concentration.

It turns out observation skills and the sensory aspect of bodywork is as important as or more so than the motor actions we take. So use your eyes brilliantly and you will SEE what needs to be done.

As I learn of the shootings in Texas, and the murders in Buffalo last week, and in every week of this year, I am yet again dumbstruck! I feel an ocean of tears and compassion for so many who have been killed, harmed, and those left behind who have lost children and loved ones. This carnage reflects a national glorification of violence, an immoral deluded cowardly politics, a lack of our society’s care for mental health, a lack of resources for the troubled among us, and a lack of support for the vulnerable. And underneath this, much of our culture is driven by fear of "the other," by despair and disconnection and rage. We have to acknowledge this, tend the suffering, and change our collective consciousness.

The more we foster hate, ignorance, fear, and greed, the more will we all suffer.
The more we cultivate love, trust, wisdom, and generosity, the more we will love in harmony and well-being. This is our task now. How we speak, what we support, how we vote all matter!

Sitting quietly, these tragedies strengthen my resolve to not let terror and fear take over my heart.
As we move through this beautiful and troubled world, may we vow to be a beacon of peace, a fearless carrier of respect and lovingkindness for all life, a teller of truth, a voice for justice, a protector of those who are vulnerable or targeted. May the power of wisdom, integrity and compassion be our guide.

And may I/we follow these instructions of the Buddha.......

"Others will kill. We shall not kill. Thus we should direct our hearts.
Others will be cruel. We shall not be cruel. Thus should we direct our hearts.
Others will speak falsely. We will speak what is true. Thus we should direct our hearts.
Others will be fraudulent. We shall not be fraudulent. Thus we should direct our hearts.
Others will be hateful. We shall become loving. Thus we shall direct our hearts.
Others will be unwise. We shall become wise. Thus we shall direct our hearts."

May I/we carry these intentions with courage, as a beacon and a medicine, as a blessing to all we touch.

Metta,
Jack

Newly published in the International Journal of ZB and Transformative Touch

Integrating Psychedelic Experiences through Touch, by James Salomons, a ZB practitioner from Edinburgh, explores the use of Zero Balancing in integrating psychedelic experiences through sessions with three volunteers. inner-flow.uk

The author writes: "My theory is that, using conscious touch, it's possible to connect with the person's psychedelic experience – its qualities, to be more exact – and help ground it into their literal and metaphoric bones. Doing so would help them integrate these qualities into their everyday life."

What is Zero Balancing?

Zero Balancing is a gentle yet powerful system of skilled touch that heightens an increased sense of connection, peace, balance and harmony by working with expanded states of consciousness.

By engendering expanded states of consciousness – beyond a linear consciousness – ZB allows us to be in touch with our internal world, allowing it to shift and expand to more easily reframe our life history.

Developed in the early 1970s by Fritz Frederick Smith MD, a doctor of medicine and osteopathy and master of acupuncture, Dr Smith’s extensive study of Western scientific models and Eastern principles of energy and healing afforded him a unique insight into the relationship between energy or “chi”, as a force in the body, and the structural anatomy of the skeleton.

Dr Smith’s desire to integrate these principles into a single therapeutic system culminated in his developing Zero Balancing.

Now this gets me EXCITED www.wanakahealthbridge.co.nz!

Best thing I've seen in New Zealand so far in relation to the
current situation.

What different world we would live in if there was a proactive approach to health.

To promote regular bowel movements and good overall colon health, try doing the following twice a day:

1.  While standing, take a deep breath in and hold it.  In this state, contract your abdominal wall as though you are trying to shrink your tummy as much as possible and hold this state for a few seconds.  Then exhale fully and let your tummy relax.  Repeat this cycle five times.

2.  While lying down, take a deep breath in and hold it.  In this state, use the pads of your fingers of both hands to gently but firmly massage your abdomen from the bottom border of your rib cage all the way down to the top border of your pelvis - put another way, through the entire length of your abdomen.  Exhale fully.  Repeat this cycle five times.

These two exercises promote healthy flow of stools through your colon and encourage optimal waves of contraction through the smooth muscles that line your colon.

In the absence of pain or inflammation, one can use a good amount of firm pressure with this massaging technique, pressing a good inch or two into the abdomen. Where there is pain or inflammation, it's best not to massage the area without first consulting with one's physician.

As an interesting side note, the first technique described above typically leads to a long term decrease in circumference measured around all sections of the abdomen, most noticeably around the level of the belly button.  This is most likely due to improvement in tone and strength through the transversus abdominis muscle, the deepest layer of muscle that surrounds your abdominal cavity. To the best of my knowledge and experience, no other exercises condition the transversus abdominis more effectively than the "inhale and contract" method described above.  Most conventional core exercises like crunches, leg raises, and plank mostly target the more superficial layers of abdominal muscle, including the re**us abdominis and obliques.

Please consider sharing these suggestions with family and friends who may benefit.

Autumn is the time of letting go-bowel movements are the letting go of all that no longer serves us. Keeps everything flowing.

For those who have a tendency to experience a sluggish colon, bloating, or constipation, one simple suggestion often yields positive results:

Eat 2 kiwis daily. 🥝🥝

The nutrient content of kiwis is such that they promote gentle cleansing of the colon and improvement in transit time.

Kiwis are naturally abundant in vitamin C and fiber which are helpful to optimal bowel function.

Less well known is that kiwis are a good source of actinidin, a protease enzyme that helps in the breakdown of protein and sems to improve transit time through the gastrointestinal tract by stimulating smooth muscles that line the colon wall. It's worth noting that green kiwis have more naturally occurring actinidin than golden kiwis, though golden kiwis are also an excellent source of vitamin C and fiber.

Papaya, mango, and pineapple also provide naturally occurring actinidin, vitamin C, and fiber, but ounce per ounce, kiwis seem to be more effective than these other fruits in resolving longstanding or recurrent constipation.

Please consider sharing this information with loved ones - it's a relatively simple way of ensuring a clean and healthy colon. In my book, having comfortable and regular bowel movements is a top marker for longevity.
