Interceptive Orthodontics

30% of UK children have severe malocclusion (bite problems) benefiting from BRACES. This is based on the IOTN(index), and this group are identified as IOTN score of 4 and 5 and get treatment between the ages of 10-18.

However, a minority presents with very severe bite problems that need early identification and possible INTERCEPTIVE treatment at around age 7-10. These are kids with

Crossbites (narrow upper jaw)
Increased Overjet (very protruding upper teeth)
Deepbite (too much coverage between upper and lower front teeth),
Underbite(lower teeth extend farther than upper teeth).
Unerupted adult teeth, usually at this age range adult central and lateral incisors should be erupted and the baby teeth in this areas should be gone

There is no age limit for orthodontic treatment🙂

This is my very motivated patient, Alison, with excellent oral hygiene; pay attention to healthy gums, it was a pleasure treating her, we used conventional fixed metal braces to treat her Class III malocclusion.

At the time of brace removal she was 68 years old and very happy with her smile ✅
