✨ Round two with Hands With Heart.
I’m leaving this volunteering mission with my heart very full.
This mission’s team was 20 clinicians strong: osteopaths, physiotherapists, doctors, and nurses from all around the world - all coming together with one shared purpose: to support children living with disability through movement, touch, and connection.
The work that are doing is incredibly important, not only in providing healthcare, but in helping to challenge stigma and improve access to support for children with disabilities who are so often overlooked.
One of the most powerful parts of this experience has been witnessing the love and dedication of the carers at the schools. Their advocacy, patience, and commitment to their children is something I will carry with me long after leaving.
For many of the children we met, it wasn’t about “fixing” anything.
It was about maintaining function, encouraging movement, building trust, and creating a safe space where they could be seen, supported, and celebrated.
Alongside hands-on care, we also had the opportunity to share skills and teach with local physiotherapists and students, learning from each other and working towards more sustainable, long-term support within the community.
I also feel incredibly fortunate to have worked alongside and learned from such experienced clinicians from around the world, sharing knowledge, perspectives, and a common goal of improving care.
This experience has reinforced for me how powerful connection and being present in the moment can be, not just as a treatment tool, but as a way of communicating safety, respect, and presence.
Grateful to have been part of this team.
This work matters.
I’ll be back. 🙏
