It's that time of the year after a cold snap where we are trying to work out where our next bite is going to come from. This morning we went quite a journey, into the Kent countryside, as we knew a place that comes up trumps even in the coldest weather. An enjoyable short session for silvers.

After the recent fall in temperature things looked really bleak for todays session at Grove farm.
The method that stopped a blankety blank was a hair rigged worm in conjunction with a ground bait feeder with chopped worm and maggot. The only bite of the day.
In freezing conditions, fishing today, was not for the faint hearted.

The fishing at Grove farm was not easy today. One of our students who had fished the pole early in the day and struggled had the foresight to switch to surface fishing in the afternoon after seeing fish topping and went on to have a cracking session.

In heavy rain, today at Shorne and fishing not easy, we tried something different a small maggot feeder with corn tipped with a red maggot on the hook, a great cocktail bait that still works.

As the session went on today and the air temperature went up there was a few carp to be had on top, but we have got to make the most of it with winter approaching.

Something I noticed on a walk along the Medway between Teston and Wateringbury, looked to me as if Pennywort was growing, which is an evasive plant that can take over waterways and is basically bad news. I have got an idea that Maidstone victory run this stretch of river.

We started fishing today in the hope of a few fish on the surface. But throughout the morning there was no signs of carp on top. But the lads persisted feeding floating pellets little and often and just after lunch time, as the temperature went up slightly the carp came out to play and that's when the fun really began.

Good to be back at School today after the recent school break.
A bit of paperwork towards the BTEC angling qualification then the reward was to have a fish. Fishing at Shorne has been tough of late, but fishing light on the Whip with maggot we managed a few silver fish.

In the classroom today we looked at feeders and how to set them up. Then we had a fish. The fishing for carp at Grove is getting a little harder now the water temperature is dropping, but some patient and skilful fishing on top and waggler fishing, on the bottom, was rewarded with some nice carp.

We had a lot going on today at Shorne Country park, at first the lads as part of the BTEC Fishing course had to identify aquatic fauna. We then went pond dipping and found some fascinating creatures including dragonflies and damselflies which is a sign of good water quality, then we went and had a fish.
We fished on the Long lake which has had extensive maintenance clearing the w**d on the lake.
Plenty of silver fish on the Whip and a bonus mirror carp on a feeder and corn.
An enjoyable day.
