👋Meet Dr Laura Blackmore, a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at The Blackheath Hospital. She has almost 20 years’ experience and has a deeply empathic approach to patient care.

Dr Blackmore completed her undergraduate medical training at Cambridge University, graduating with a first-class degree in 2002, before undertaking her clinical training at Oxford University, which she completed in 2005. She later moved to London to complete specialist training in Hepatology at King’s College Hospital and Gastroenterology at St Thomas’ Hospital.

Dr Blackmore has a passion for medical education and for improving patient care through targeted service development.

👋Meet Mr Thomas White, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon working at The Blackheath Hospital.

Mr Thomas White is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery. After qualifying from Bristol Medical School in 2005, he completed advanced training in London and internationally, including fellowships in complex hip and knee surgery in the UK and Australia.

Appointed Consultant at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust in 2018, he leads Revision Hip and Knee Surgery and also treats complex trauma cases. He is an Honorary Consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, operating on complex cases.

Mr White is actively involved in education and research, and has published extensively in orthopaedics.

This month is about raising awareness, encouraging earlier diagnosis, and supporting those living with endometriosis every day.

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition and can have a great impact on the quality of life of those affected by it. Common symptoms include:

💛 Pain radiating down the legs
💛 Frequency of urination
💛 Tiredness/lethargy
💛 Lower pelvic pain
💛 Bloating
💛 Endometriosis can also cause occasionally infertility
