🧠 Nervous System Reset – Just 5 Minutes a Day
Your nervous system is constantly working behind the scenes, keeping you safe — but when it’s stuck in fight or flight, everything feels harder: focus, sleep, digestion, even your mood. Modern busy lives keep us in fight or flight mode. Learning to breathe functionally and creating time and space for you is important and helps you to build a resilient body.

✨ Give your body a daily chance to recharge.
Here’s how:
Lie down, set a timer for 5 minutes.
Close your eyes.
Breathe in and out through your nose.
Slow it down.
Soften it, make the breathe as slow as you can, feel the relaxation as your breathe leaves the body
The mind will wonder but try and keep the focus on the breathe
Breathe into the bottom of the ribs, feel the ribs move as your breathe

This simple pause tells your body:

🕊️ You’re safe.

💛 You can rest now.

🌿 Healing happens here.

Find time everyday to do this. Your nervous system will thank you.

Why Is Functional Breathing So Important?
Breathing is something we do all day, every day—but how we breathe matters more than most people realise.

Women and Breathing: Why It’s Different
Women tend to have smaller rib cages and lungs compared to men. This makes us more prone to over-breathing, which can trigger anxiety and even panic. Hormonal fluctuations—especially during the peri- and postmenopausal stages—further increase our risk of dysfunctional breathing patterns.
* Women are twice as likely to suffer from sleep-related breathing disorders.

* Women are 2 to 3 times more likely to experience panic disorders, often linked to hormonal shifts that heighten our breathing rate.

What Is Functional Breathing?
Functional breathing means breathing in a way that supports your body’s natural systems—calm, light, deep, and primarily through the nose. It allows:
* A stronger, more stable core

* A resilient, injury-resistant body

* A calm, balanced nervous system

When we breathe functionally, we tap into the vagus nerve, shifting the body out of fight-or-flight mode and into rest-and-digest. This is especially important for managing:
* Hot flushes

* Night sweats

* Anxiety and overwhelm

What Does Dysfunctional Breathing Look Like?
Signs of dysfunctional breathing include:
* Mouth breathing (especially at rest)

* Upper chest movement

* Audible breathing during rest

* Frequent sighing or yawning

* Over-breathing

These patterns can destabilise the inner core, forcing the body to rely on larger muscles for support—leading to tension, fatigue, and risk of injury.
Simple Ways to Improve Your Breathing
* Nasal breathing: Aim to breathe through your nose as much as possible during the day.

* 5-minute resets: Twice daily, lie down and focus on light, slow, deep breathing.

* Body awareness: Notice if your chest rises more than your belly when you breathe—this is a sign to slow down and soften your breath.
