Medical terms can sound worrying when you first hear them, especially during recovery after breast surgery. That’s why we created the Power of Prehab™ phrasebook, to help explain common terms in clear, accessible language 📖

Today’s term is cording, also known as axillary web syndrome. It’s a possible side effect after breast or lymph node surgery and can look or feel like tight, rope-like bands running down the arm from the armpit. Cording can cause discomfort, a pulling sensation, or reduced movement in the arm or shoulder. It isn’t dangerous and often improves with gentle stretching, physical therapy, or massage.

Understanding terms like this can help reduce uncertainty and make conversations with your care team feel more manageable.

You can find more definitions in the Power of Prehab™ phrasebook inside the free BLOOM⁴³ Prehab™ app, in the glossary within the learn section, alongside expert-reviewed education to support you before and after surgery.

Changes to the body after breast surgery can affect more than just how you look, they can shape confidence, identity, and how you feel about yourself and your relationships 🥺

This is your reminder that you don’t have to feel brave all the time 🥹❤️‍🩹

Before breast surgery, during treatment, or throughout recovery, emotions can shift from strength to vulnerability and back again, and that’s normal. Preparing for surgery doesn’t mean feeling calm every day, and recovering well doesn’t mean staying positive all the time.

There can be pressure to be resilient, especially when navigating breast cancer or major surgery. But it’s okay if some days feel heavy, uncertain, or overwhelming.

If you’re preparing for breast surgery or moving through recovery right now, this is your reminder that courage doesn’t have to be constant.

In honor of , our U.S. Patient Champion, Nichole Owens shares her personal experience of learning about breast density and why understanding it matters.

Breast density can affect how breast cancer is detected, yet many people aren’t told what it means or how it applies to them. Hearing real stories helps make these conversations clearer and encourages people to ask the right questions about their own breast health.

Thank you, Nichole, for sharing your experience and helping raise awareness around breast density.

Recovery is rarely linear. That doesn’t mean it isn’t working ❤️‍🩹

After surgery, progress often comes in small, uneven steps. Some days feel easier and others don’t. That back-and-forth is a common part of healing, even when everything is moving in the right direction.

This is a reminder to be gentle with yourself and to measure recovery over time, not day by day.
