I'm here at the beautiful Waterperry Gardens this Easter weekend with Rina Golan - facilitating spaces to tend grief as part of her Spring Retreat and as part of the natural cycle of life. We're also planning a joint workshop on grief and wellbeing which will explore how we can support ourselves holistically following a loss. More details coming soon.

This final week before Christmas can be a really poignant time for my bereaved clients as they prepare to celebrate the holiday without a loved one. We often take our last session before the break to explore; how they might manage painful emotions, navigate family dynamics as well as find ways to honour their loved one. Clients find it can be helpful to be prepared and even be a really beautiful time. In case you're in this situation or know someone else who is but don't have professional support, I've gathered the following suggestions and resources to help you make the best of navigating grief during the festive season.

I've just delivered a wellbeing session on bereavement and loss for the Crown Prosecution Service as part of National Grief Awareness Week. Attendees fed back that they found the session informative, helpful and very timely coming just before the festive season. But it doesn't have to be a special week or a timely moment to talk about loss and the help that's available. Starting that conversation at any time can help staff feel more resilient and better supported. If you think your company or organisation could benefit from a wellbeing session like that, feel welcome to get in touch to hear how I could help.

Although ‘grief is the price we pay for love', loneliness and isolation don't have to be the price we pay for grief.

Here's a blog I wrote about NGAW and the many events and sources of support available if you're struggling following a bereavement.

Some thoughts about grief on Grief Awareness Day...

"We live in a grief-illiterate society. Because people so seldom share their true experience of grief, we don't really know what to expect. Grief Awareness is so important. What no one tells us about grief:

Grief is isolating
There are so many secondary losses
The pain of grief can hit unexpectedly
Grief is exhausting
We may experience many feelings in one day
Grief lasts longer than expected
Grief profoundly changes us
Grief brain is real
You may lose your patience
There may also be physical issues
Grief is disorienting
Grief is transformative

Each of us will have a unique experience with grief. But seeing these threads of commonalities and connecting with one another can help us feel connected and less isolated in our grief."

GRIEF & WELLBEING - A HOLISTIC APPROACH
Tuesday 5th September from 7 - 8 pm BST

It's even more important to consider our wellbeing after a bereavement or loss but can be hard to know how or to find the motivation when we're struggling. I’m pleased to be partnering with wellness mentor and lifestyle consultant Rina Golan, to offer an information session focusing especially on grief and wellbeing. We’ll be considering the holistic effect of loss in order to share suggestions for managing the ways grief can impact our mind, body, spirit and emotions. I’ll be offering practical thoughts and tips based on my many years therapeutic experience, while Rina will draw on her knowledge of ancient views on grief as well as herbs, rituals and practices to support the nervous system, and the mental and spiritual body. If you've loved and lost or are supporting someone who is grieving, or if you want to understand grief and how to sustain your wellbeing, this session is for you.

++ EARLY-BIRD ticket until Tuesday 17th August. ++

What a great idea if you're struggling with loss... A place to record what you need and what helps. A gentle reminder for those days when it's easy to forget.

"The grief care plan is a nod to how ugly day-to-day life can look after loss. Sure, we need to create space to sort through anger and guilt and existential despair. But we also need to figure out how to get through the day and take care of ourselves. And grief means that sometimes we’ve literally forgotten how to. ... This is why creating a care plan is so important. It is something physical and tangible that we complete in a brighter moment so we can look at it in the darkest moments. Yes, it will feel basic. But in rebuilding a life after loss, re-establish the basics matters."

A grief care plan ensures you have what you need on the worst days of grief, just to survive the day. On that foundation you can build your life after loss.
