Secular Medical Forum

Secular Medical Forum The SMF raises awareness of the many areas within medicine and society where religious privilege and interference cause significant harm to patients.

The Secular Medical Forum acts to protect patients from the harmful imposition of other people's personal religious beliefs by promoting a secular approach to current major health issues and challenging harmful religious practice These include religious barriers to accessing contraception and abortion services, religious opposition to homosexuality, religiously-inspired forced genital cutting, the imposition on society of religious concepts of sanctity of life by bishops privileged with automatic seats in the House of Lords, religious-only NHS chaplains, proselytising doctors and censored sex and relationship education in schools. We are opposed to religious influences in Medicine where these adversely affect the manner in which medical practice is performed. Members of the Forum believe that this life is the only one of which we have any definite knowledge: therefore, all human efforts must be directed to its improvement.
