With no windows allowed on the boundary walls, architects De Rosee Sa make use of rooflights and courtyards to draw light into this long, narrow property. Although sandwiched between terraced gardens and garages, the courtyards create an open and airy atmosphere with steel-and-glass doors connecting the interiors and providing views through the entire length of the house. The steel doors are balanced out with warm wood panel walls for a texturally interesting home.

Our large 6.6m x 4.4m sliding rooflight with an underslung stainless steel brise soleil and hinged mansard windows are described as a James Bond-inspired touch in this House & Garden feature article (2018).

"High above one of Kensington's most lush garden squares, two huge sets of gullwing windows - more usually found on cars and on vans - glide gently upwards, while the roof retracts to reveal the sky. At the flick of a switch, they turn a cool, contemporary room into a wide outdoor roof terrace, with only treetops and the heavens above for company."

With photos beautifully captured by photographer Lucas Allen, this article presents the London home of Mike Fisher, founder of Studio Indigo and is written by Christopher Stocks.

Come and see Monty's house, featuring a large meia sliding rooflight, during the Open House London weekend on Saturday 22nd September!
https://openhouselondon.open-city.org.uk/listings/3831

Our design director Monty is opening his house to the public for a rare opportunity to explore a truly unique home, as featured on Grand Designs in 2005. Planning restrictions permitted no windows to the front or side walls, hence the main space relies entirely on the sliding rooflight for light, ambience and ventilation.

The house is visually clean and minimalist, but hides a large number of space-saving solutions, quirky inventions and creative light-enhancing details. This is a great example of how to take a strict brief with a tight budget and make something unique, functional and delightful on a brownfield site.

Come along on Saturday 22nd September between 10am-5pm to explore the house and have an inspiring design chat.

A worthy winner of the Red Dot Design Award, the Angutec hinge by Manfred Frank opens a world of possibilities in our industry. The mechanism provides 3D adjustment under full load and can be adjusted by a single person, and the range of motion allows thick panels to be mounted with minimal gaps, flush with adjoining surfaces.

A beautiful and thoughtful design by Latvian designer Arthur Analts. This €5 coin reflects Latvia's impressive ecology and highlights the importance of bees. Each of the honeycomb cells in the coin are unique with a slightly different shape to create a natural effect, and when put together, each coin becomes part of a bigger picture.

Latvian designer Arthur Analts has created a €5 coin with a tessellating honeycomb shape, to highlight the abundant natural resources of his home country.

We are delighted to see the Brook Barn project by Zac Monro Architects, featuring our asymmetric glass atrium, shortlisted for the Sunday Times British Home Awards - Home Transformation of the Year.

http://www.britishhomesawards.co.uk/shortlist-2018/

The architect's goal was to create the lightest possible rooflight with glazing seemingly cutting into the ancient timber with the elegance and finesse of a razor blade. This was achieved by our asymmetric design carefully suited to the varying pitch of the ancient roofs. By using tapering, blade-like frames we enhanced the sense of floating glass on the surrounding structure, while still providing enough structure for the proprietary sliding doors fitted beneath.

The converted medieval barn was seen on Channel 4's Inside Out Homes in 2016.
