Why do our lips get smaller as we age? 👀💭👇

It’s totally natural for your pout to lose volume and definition as you get older. But 𝘄𝗵𝘆 does it happen? 👇

1. Collagen Loss: Collagen is the main protein that keeps our skin, including our lips, plump and firm. As we age, our body produces less collagen, which can lead to thinning lips and a reduction in overall volume
2. Elastin Decrease: Elastin is another protein that keeps the skin flexible and resilient. Elastin production once again slows down as we age… meaning your skin loses elasticity, which can in turn cause your lips to lose shape and definition
3. Hyaluronic Acid Decline: Naturally present in our skin, hyaluronic acid helps retain moisture and adds fullness. As we get older, our levels of hyaluronic acid also decrease… eading to drier, thinner lips
4. Bone Structure Changes: Over time, the bone structure around the mouth and jawline can also shift slightly, which may contribute to a smaller-looking lip area
5. External Factors: Sun exposure, smoking and repetitive facial movements can all lead to faster breakdown of collagen and elastin, making lips appear thinner
