Intentional movement changes everything. Many people move on the mat without being truly present in their bodies. What unhelpful physical patterning might we be exacerbating by always moving in the path of least resistance, and not challenging our weak spots?
Musculoskeletal imbalances can lead to postural problems, pain, injury… no wonder strength training is the hot topic right now.
But I’m not only talking about the flexible woman who only practises yoga. You could also apply this to those who solely prioritise strength-work without supporting themselves with flexibility and nervous system regulation practices.
Pilates can be an incredibly powerful practice for bringing more balance posturally, recruiting both the deeper stabilising muscles and larger, more superficial ‘prime mover’ muscles. Add yoga, and you get the best of both worlds: awareness, calm, flexibility, muscle tone and strength.
What I see among my regular Yogalates students? A body that feels strong, balanced, and good to live in. Better posture, less pain, more balanced strength, and greater ease throughout the body.
