November is Mouth Cancer Action Month, and at The Dentist Balham, we’re helping raise awareness of this growing health concern.

Mouth cancer can appear on the tongue, lips, gums, or inside the cheeks - and early detection saves lives. Look out for:
⚠️ Ulcers that don’t heal after 3 weeks
⚠️ Red or white patches
⚠️ Lumps or swelling in the mouth
⚠️ Persistent hoarseness or difficulty swallowing
⚠️ Smoking, drinking alcohol, and HPV infection can all increase your risk.

We include oral cancer screenings as part of every routine dental check-up. It’s quick, painless, and could be life-saving.

👉 Book your appointment today and make your oral health a priority this Mouth Cancer Action Month.

Halloween is here - and while the little monsters are out filling their buckets, you can keep their smiles fright-free with these simple tips from Dentist Balham:

🍭 Pick the right treats – Soft chocolates melt away faster than sticky sweets that cling to teeth.
🕓 Set a sweet time – Enjoy goodies after meals to help limit sugar’s attack on enamel.
💧 Rinse and refresh – A quick sip of water after snacking can work wonders for a cleaner mouth.
🪥 Brush before bed – No skipping the nighttime brush — even ghosts need clean teeth!
👨‍⚕️ Book a post-Halloween check-up – Keep little fangs (and big ones) healthy long after the sweets are gone.

Wishing all our patients a fang-tastically fun Halloween — full of smiles, not scares! 😁🎃

🧫 And most of them are completely harmless!

Good oral hygiene keeps this natural balance healthy. When plaque builds up, harmful bacteria can multiply and lead to gum disease, tooth decay, and even bad breath.

Brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting your dentist regularly helps keep your smile - and your whole body - healthy.

💪 Small daily habits make a big difference.

Thinking about straightening your smile but not sure where to start? Here are some of the most common questions we hear about Invisalign, and the answers you need to know.

1️⃣ What is Invisalign?
Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gently move your teeth into their ideal position without the need for traditional metal braces.

2️⃣ How long does Invisalign treatment take?
Treatment time varies depending on your case, but most patients see results in 6 to 18 months.

3️⃣ Is Invisalign painful?
You may feel slight pressure when you switch to a new set of aligners, but it’s generally much more comfortable than fixed braces.

4️⃣ How often do I wear my aligners?
For best results, you’ll need to wear your aligners for 20–22 hours per day, removing them only for eating, drinking (anything other than water), brushing, and flossing.

5️⃣ Can I eat and drink normally?
Yes! Since Invisalign aligners are removable, you can continue enjoying all your favourite foods - just make sure to clean your teeth before putting them back in.

6️⃣ How do I get started?
Book a consultation at Dentist Balham. We’ll assess your smile, discuss your goals, and create a personalised treatment plan just for you.

Mouthwash does more than just freshen your breath - it’s an easy extra step that helps keep your whole mouth healthy!

Here’s why you should make it part of your daily routine:
✨ Reduces plaque and bacteria – helps prevent gum disease.
💧 Freshens breath – neutralises odour-causing bacteria.
🛡️ Strengthens enamel – fluoride mouthwash can help protect against cavities.
🦠 Reaches where brushing can’t – getting to those tricky spots between teeth and along the gumline.

For best results, choose an alcohol-free mouthwash and use it after brushing and flossing.

Keep your smile healthy, clean, and confident! 😁

"I was treated today by Aliz Tisoczski (Hygienist) and her nurse Lucky and it was honestly the best dental treatment I think I’ve ever had. Aliz was so thorough, explaining so much but also helping to calm my nerves with gentle reassurance. Both women were fantastic and I’m very grateful they are at the surgery."

We’re so grateful for this lovely review from one of our patients.

A huge thank you to Aliz and Lucky for continuing to provide such exceptional care and comfort to our patients. 👏
