What do 10,000 steps a day and 30,000 handwritten notes have to do with team performance?

If you’re Douglas Conant, quite a lot.

When he took over as CEO of Campbell’s Soup back in 2001, the place was a mess: underperforming business, toxic culture, engagement scraping the floor.

So he didn’t start with a big strategy.
He started walking.

10,000 steps a day, every day, talking to employees, understanding what wasn’t working, making real human contact. And over 10 years, he wrote more than 30,000 thank-you notes. In a company of 20,000 people.
