Playing Talking Learning raises awareness, knowledge and skills of parents and educators, and the range of professionals involved with children, to support children’s language and communication development. SOME HISTORY...
Olwen Morgen, the founder of Playing Talking Learning, set up PTL in 2018 in the UK and Zimbabwe. Motivated by the lack of speech and language therapy services in her homeland, Zimbabwe, Olwen started a range of projects in Zimbabwe from 2013. These continue to the present day, focusing on raising awareness and knowledge of speech, language and communication difficulties in children, and developing carer, parent and teacher skills in dealing with these difficulties at home and school. In addition, Olwen partners with various Zimbabwean organisations and individuals to improve the lives of children and parents and to thereby ensure improved outcomes for children. MORE ABOUT OLWEN! I am a therapist with more than 30 years of experience of working within a broad range of community health and educational services as a speech and language therapist and as the manager of and professional lead for speech and language therapy and multi-therapy services. Beside working privately/in my own business in the UK, I have also worked successfully as an independent practitioner in Australia, South Africa, Denmark and Zimbabwe. I work with children and young people across the age range (0 to 19 years of age):

-in a variety of settings, e.g. homes, my clinic, pre-schools/mainstream schools, special schools;
-with a range of disorders, e.g. pre-school and school-aged language and communication disorders; students with a range of special needs, particularly ASD, up to their transition onto college;
-in collaboration with parents, and a range of professionals and agencies to a highly specialist level. I have a depth and breadth of experience in teaching, training and supporting parents, colleagues, other professionals in the identification and management of speech, language and communication difficulties in children. I am Hanen certified (It Takes Time To Talk; More Than Words); and recently have certified to deliver Hanen programs online. I use a wide range of assessment and therapy tools, and am increasingly developing individualised therapy resources for each child and young person that I work with. My areas of expertise include developmental speech disorders, developmental language disorder, early stuttering (Lidcombe), ASD (PECs, ABA certified). I developed and have extensively used The Traffic Light Profile. The Traffic Light Profile (TLP) provides a means for professionals, those who are and who are not Speech and Language Therapists (SLTS), and parents, to profile a child in terms of his/her play, interaction and communication, understanding of language and expressive language skills.
