Today is so I thought I’d share this … I found it very helpful when I was going through a time of significant stress.

We all know some stress is helpful to energise us toward the finish line, but if kept unchecked it can lead to harmful states of overwhelm and burnout.

Taking these 4 simple steps can help you manage your daily stress so that it works for not against you.

1. Label your feelings, don’t be scared to admit there is stress there for fear of overwhelm or feeling a failure

2. Stop what you are doing and take 5 deep breaths in through your nose right down into the bottom of your belly and push the out breath out through your mouth in 2 two quick bursts to calm your nervous system

3. brain dump all the things you haven’t finished doing into paper so they are all there out in the open, telling your survival brain you are on it (you can even do this at bedtime!)

4. Add one more thing to your day that gives you a sense of control over life
- do exercise to control your health
- pay a bill to control your finances
- call a friend to control your sense of connection
- book to see a movie to control your fun
- read an interesting article to control your growth and learning
- take 10 minutes to moisturise to control your sense of well-being
- update your CV to control your next career move …

Stress doesn’t have to be scary.

Overwhelm can be avoided or managed.

You’ve got this.

We are now already 6 weeks into the new school year. 😱

For some that will have been manageable and even enjoyable …

For most, for a range of reasons, those weeks will have been occasionally stressful, with struggles to:
- get to school on time
- have a life between drop off and pick up
- be present at work
- squeeze in caring for elderly parents
- survive dinner and bath time
- get homework done
- not feel totally drained by the time the kids are in bed.

As a parent of 3 young adults I know only too well how challenging parenting can be.

For the last decade I have been helping parents not just survive parenting but enjoy it!

Join me on the next series of Mindfulness-based stress management workshops so you can learn easy breathing techniques and practical strategies to cope with the stresses and potential anxieties of modern home or work life, so that it can be harmonious.

Over the 5 weeks we will look at:
🌟Why and how we operate on auto-pilot and feel the need to rush the day
🌟How we should/can judge ourselves less, in order to be happy
🌟What stressors we face and how they can provoke emotions, reactions and urges
🌟How to deal with difficulties
🌟How to relate to our thoughts and flourish
🌟How to accept things and let happy times unfold.

I have had the privilege of sharing this programme with over 1000 adults over the last decade and everyone walks away happier and calmer.

That could be YOU before Xmas.

For a personal investment of just £135 including audios and a workbook.

DM me or email breathe@annawille.com for more information and to book your place.
Venue: Earlsfield SW18
Start date: Nov 6th
Time: 9.30-11am

Today is … a time to raise awareness about MH issues and mobilise efforts in support of MH, especially in times of instability.

This is me, 4 days ago, having escaped to the Algarve in an act of self-care because quite frankly the last 2 months have tested my mental health.

I have a fairly privileged life but sometimes the amount of instability is overwhelming.

I’m fortunate to be able to afford a therapist (even though I am one!) and recently shared with them ‘who am I to feel stressed? it’s not as if I live in Gaza. I have a home. Food. Safety.’

But what they reminded me is that stability is relative and there is no shame in feeling stressed even if you are privileged.

When your world is rocked, be it by:
- financial instability
- health wobbles
- worrying about your kids
- dealing with past traumas
- caring for poorly relatives
- insecurity about your career …

… you can’t feel or be your best self.

In my Mindfulness and Psychology-based talks, I always share the 70 year old science of Maslow and his hierarchy of needs: that is, that to feel fulfilled and therefore happy, we need:
- guaranteed warmth, nourishment and shelter
- to feel psychologically and physically well and safe
- to feel loved and have a sense of belonging
- self-confidence and self-esteem.

When any of those are lacking it is impossible to feel or be our best selves.

So today glance at those 4 prerequisites and if you or anyone you know needs a bit of help in any of those areas reach out.

We all deserve to be happy and it’s OK, however privileged you are, to pause and look after yourself.

You can only help others when your oxygen mask is on.

So, keep on sharing when you are wobbling, so others will share too, and if you can, mobilise MH efforts for yourself and your corner of the world.

It takes a village to raise a happy human.

My Story

Anna is proud and honoured to be a respected voice on Mindfulness in South West London. Over the last four years she has dedicated her work to bringing this important life skill, which centres around using your breath as a tool for stress relief, to 4000 children and adults aged 7 to 70. Having re-designed her life after ‘finding’ her breath, she is committed to teaching others to find theirs, so they can thrive.

These same tools enabled her to transform devastation in her life into a force for her own happiness, as well as make social impact. By introducing children and adults to the power of Mindfulness as a support in everyday life, she has enabled them to embrace plan B, when things fall apart, as they often do.

The onset of her mother’s dementia has further deepened and strengthened her Mindfulness; ironically this cruel illness that cuts people off from their lives, has helped her discover new levels of compassion and connectedness.

Finally, to kick start her journey towards half a century, Anna joined an Action Challenge team to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in January 2020. This will not only test her mindfulness and resilience, but also help raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society and awareness of the amazing work they do for people living with dementia.
