Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming a wonderful group of women from the Vietnamese community in Greenwich to our hospice.
During their visit, we shared a tour of our space and spoke about the care and support we provide. With the help of a translator, we made sure everyone could fully take part in the conversation, because feeling included and understood matters.
What stood out most wasnāt just what we shared, but what we learned. The warmth, openness, and connection in the room were a powerful reminder that meaningful engagement goes far beyond a tick-box exercise.
When we truly value communities for their relationships, culture, and lived experiences, we all benefit. It also reminds us of the importance of continuing to address the inequalities that can too often create barriers to care and connection.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. š§”

Shield Pest Control Partners with Royal Warrant Holdersā Charity to Support Community Hospice (Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice).
We are honoured to have been awarded an Employee Fundraising Grant of Ā£500 from the Royal Warrant Holdersā Charity, in recognition of our recent fundraising efforts for one of our chosen charities for 2026, Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice.
On Monday 16th of March, our team proudly hosted a local quiz night to raise funds for this extraordinary charity, which holds a deeply personal significance for many of our staff. The hospiceās compassionate care and support for those facing terminal illness resonate closely with our team, reflecting both personal experiences and a shared commitment to giving back to the community.
The quiz night was a resounding success, raising a total of £2,160, including £1,354 contributed via JustGiving by our staff, generous donations from family, friends, local businesses and suppliers, as well as various raffle prizes donated for the quiz night by local businesses. This total also includes £306 from Gift Aid, and the £500 grant from the RWH Charity.
Daniel Steward, Managing Director at Shield Pest Control, says: āWe are incredibly grateful for the support we have received for our fundraising campaign for Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice. Every contribution, whether from our staff, friends or family, has made a meaningful difference. We extend our sincere thanks to the RWH Charity for their generous grant, which has further strengthened our efforts. Having proudly held a Royal Warrant since 2008, we remain committed to supporting local charities and giving back to our local communities.ā
In addition to our recent fundraising efforts, we also continue to support Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice through providing routine pest control at the Abbey Wood hospice and several of the charityās retail shops, helping to keep these facilities safe and pest-free.

We need your help in our eBay team
Our eBay shop plays a vital role in helping us raise essential funds for hospice care, but right now we urgently need more volunteers to join the team.
Weāre looking for people with good digital skills who can help photograph, describe and list donated items online from our hub in Welling on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays. Full training is provided, and even a few hours a week can make a real difference.
If youāre organised, reliable and want to use your skills for something meaningful, we would love to hear from you.
Charity shops are more than a shop.
They are the public face of great causes.
Every time you step into one of our shops, youāre not just browsing or buying. Youāre stepping into the heart of what we do.
You see the mission.
You meet the people.
You experience the impact.
Behind every item donated or purchased is a story of care, support, and community. Our shops are often the first place people connect with us, and the place where many choose to stand with us.
Thatās what makes them more than a shop.
If itās been a while since your last visit, this is your sign. Come in, have a browse, and be part of something meaningful.
Today, Hospice UK is launching a national Fair Funding campaign, with hospices across the country coming together to call for more sustainable funding.
We want to reassure you that we are not reducing services and we are here for everyone who needs us. However, like many hospices, we are facing increasing financial pressures and planning carefully to make sure we can continue to provide the care our community relies on. Sustainable funding will be essential to help us do this, both now and in the future.
Thatās why weāre supporting this campaign, to help protect hospice care for years to come and to stand beside hospices across the country facing significant challenges.

When Sandie first met John through our Compassionate Neighbours programme, she had no idea how much her life would change.
What started as a simple introduction turned into weekly breakfasts, shared laughter, and a friendship thatās supported them both through lifeās hardest moments.
From feeling lonely to feeling connected, Sandieās story is a powerful reminder of what compassion can do.
And for John, volunteering has been just as meaningful.
āItās a two-way thing⦠a friendship blossoms.ā
This is what Compassionate Neighbours is all about.
If youāve ever thought about giving your time to support someone in your community, or if you know someone who could benefit from a friendly face and a listening ear, this could be the perfect place to start.

We are a local charity, caring for over 2,500 people every year, and all of our care is provided free of charge to people living in the Boroughs of Royal Greenwich and Bexley. We provide high-quality, compassionate care and support to people with all types of terminal illnesses, their families and their carers. Our care is delivered to people at home, in care homes, in our Hospice beds, in our Day Hospice and in hospital.
We provide holistic care that goes beyond physical needs ā offering spiritual, social and psychological care, advice and support wherever needed. We also support and educate healthcare professionals to deliver high quality, individualised and co-ordinated care to people with all terminal illnesses.
We receive only around a third of our funding from the NHS. That means we need to fundraise £5m every year from local people, businesses and organisations to continue to fund our services.
We employ approximately 180 staff and are supported by over 450 volunteers to help us deliver our services.
