“ Mostly, it is not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters “

Does it sounds difficult to understand?
Perhaps, something awful or unfair did happen to you. You are thinking that the traumatic experience is all what is important. And it is very relevant. If working together, we would definitely spend time talking about that event.
But ultimately, nobody can change what happened. However, when working in a transformational coaching alliance, we can explore your very personal reaction. Self-esteem, but not self compassion is associated with narcissism. So, the pursue of high self-esteem can be problematic.

Self-esteem entails evaluating oneself positively and often involves the need to be special and above average. Self-compassion does not entails self-evaluation or comparison with others. Rather, it is a kind,connected, and clear sighted way of relating to ourselves even in instances of failure, perceived inadequacy and imperfection. (Kristin Neff).
