Say hello to one of our newest colleagues, Bob 🐶

Bob is a 4-year-old Shih Tzu, who has been working hard in critical care at St Thomas' Hospital, as a Pets as Therapy animal. He's been giving cuddles and love to busy staff during their breaks.

Priya Bhowmick, clinical nurse educator in critical care, said: "Evidence continues to show the profound benefits of animal therapy for reducing occupational stress, and this is clearly reflected in the positive impact of Bob's visits.

"The feedback from Bob's weekly visit are extremely helpful, acting as a crucial component of our wellness strategy and improving overall psychological well-being."

It was fantastic to have the Aston Martin F1 team at Evelina London recently.

The team brought free hats and toys, invited patients to take part in a drawing competition for their very own F1 driving suit, as well as the chance to take their pictures with the Aston Martin car itself.

Massive thanks to Aston Martin driver Jess Hawkins and the whole team for taking the time to come down and give everyone a day to remember.

“Grief changed my life… It made me question how personal and professional experiences have shaped the nurse I am today.”

This Grief Awareness Week, we're sharing an inspiring article written by professional nurse advocate Kate Price.

She writes about how grief has shaped her life and career.

Kate’s story is a powerful reminder that working in proximity to death and dying can leave a lasting impact. Her article explains why she set out to create the Good Grief Café - a space for colleagues to pause, reflect, and connect.

Grief changed my life. I hadn’t appreciated just how much until I considered this year’s theme for Grief Awareness Week: ‘Growing with Grief’.

As part of Inclusive Pharmacy Practice Week, we spoke to Zareen Qadri about her role as a pharmacy supply chain manager.

Zareen has worked at the Trust for over 5 years and is head of the pharmacy distribution service.

She said: “I qualified as a pharmacy technician almost 15 years ago. As part of my role I oversee the safe and efficient receipt, storage, and supply of stocked medicines to clinical areas across the Trust and to our external customers. I also lead our ward automation service, where my teams manage the installation, training, and ongoing reporting for our medicine dispensing cabinets, ensuring secure and timely access to medicines. Leading two dedicated teams of 30 staff, we’re committed to delivering a reliable, safe, and innovative medicines supply service.”

Zareen says the best things about working at Guy’s and St Thomas’ are the teams at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Pharmacy Stores.

She said: “I’m incredibly proud of the work they do every day, their resilience, their commitment, and the way they support each other to make even the busiest days feel manageable. Their professionalism and positive attitude are what drive the service forward, and it’s a privilege to lead such dedicated and talented people.”

I'm Daisy, the infectious diseases screening midwife at St Thomas' Hospital.

I work in the specialist HIV team to provide antenatal care for pregnant women and birthing people with HIV. Towards the end of their pregnancies, I make sure specialised birth plans are in place to reduce the risk of HIV transmission from mother to baby.

Every week, I run clinics where I see women and birthing people with HIV and hepatitis B for routine appointments and make sure any extra support they need is in place. When I am not in clinic, I review results from the infectious diseases in pregnancy screening programme to make sure all positive and indeterminate results are actioned as quickly as possible.

It's important to highlight the real experiences of people living with HIV and dispel the stigmas around the virus. Every year, 600 to 800 pregnancies are reported in people with HIV in the UK. Effective treatment and support reduces the transmission rate of HIV to babies in pregnancy and birth to less than 1%. Medical advances means people with HIV can live long and healthy lives and we hope to end new cases by 2030.
