How Being Close to Death Taught Me the Sacred Art of Letting Go

There was a time in my life when I thought I was the Angel of Death.

Not in a metaphorical sense but literally.

You see, while working as a nurse, something strange kept happening.
I’d be asleep — fast asleep — and suddenly I’d be jolted awake.
A pull.
A knowing.
A message that whispered: “Go now.”

I’d arrive at the ward.
Find my way to a patient’s bedside.
And within moments of my presence, they would pass.

Not just once but again and again.

The Somatic Toll of Emotional Suppression

Have you ever bitten your nails that the nail beds bleed, grind your teeth at night that they splinter or clench your jaw so tight that your teeth ache. You are not the only one - many of us have done that.

It wasn’t intentional that I did these things.
I didn’t even notice I was doing it until the pain made itself known — quiet at first, then louder.
But that’s the thing with suppressed emotions: they always find a way to speak.
And if we don’t give them a voice, they will speak through the body.
