So (if you're interested) "What does this Health Practitioner/Nutritionist eat (and why)?
From my perspective, and after years of studying the body, nutrition and illnesses, I keep things simple, balanced and am implementing things I know make a huge difference to my current health and future prospects.
My diet is simple:
I have lemon water every day, and add vitamin c. A herbal tea, no caffeine unless I'm tired. Fruits for antioxidants, fiber, and natural vitamins (and because they're tasty)! Usually pineapple.
I eat 3-4 eggs a day. Protein (meat or fish) with every meal with some vegetables, usually carrots and broccoli (broccoli being a super food). I eat a mix of things but I go heavy on good quality meats, for the complete amino acids, protein and nutrient density. Protein is high on my list because I want to sustain my physical ability and muscle, brain function, immune function, energy & metabolism. As for carbs, I have a tiny portion most days and pasta or rice dish weekly for variety and enjoyment. This pattern also keeps my weight in check.
I usually skip breakfast, because I'm sat behind a desk and don't need all those extra calories piling up as fat, and fasting is a great idea, (usually 18 hours 3-4 days a week). Weekends I'll usually do breakfast for the family as we can all sit and chat too.
Then, there are my Nutrition items, because it's ESSENTIAL, not optional for your health!! Even the healthiest diets will fall short in certain areas, so I take a handful of key supplements:
• Magnesium for muscle function, sleep quality, energy, nervous system support and cellular maintenance and repair.
• Omega-3s (EPA & DHA), for cardiovascular, brain, and joint health.
• A high-quality multivitamin, to cover micronutrients which are absent.
• Probiotics, to support gut health and digestion.
• Turmeric for the huge list of benefits and also to treat 30 years of shoulder tendonitis, from martial arts training and injury!
• B complex, for energy, cell and body system maintenance.
Those are the basics!
* Ashwagandha if I need a caffeine-like lift (and for the extra blood flow to the brain)! It has many other uses including hormone balancing!
My supplementation is about filling in the gaps while aiming for optimal health. Additionally, this delivers slower aging.
People who combine a nutrient-rich, whole-food diet with targeted supplementation enjoy better quality of life, better energy, mental clarity, and acquire resilience against age-related decline. So, all my close friends and family have their own versions of the above, after some of my advice. Their health has improved, vastly! My aim is for everyone to have these benefits and better future prospects because the choices we make now set the stage for how our body, brain, and joints perform decades from now.
Future-proofing your health is a wise move and isn’t complicated. Eat wisely, supplement wisely (with professional advice tailored to you). Treat your body like the priceless investment that it is and don't ignore those issues or hide them with pills. Get them 'cured' as they're telling you there's an issue (which usually leads to others)! Listen to your body! Ask a physician for advice, not pills! Your future self will appreciate this, as will your children and family!!
