Haaland has had an amazing season 👏, but look what Shearer achieved for Rovers. Over 30 goals in 3 separate seasons.

Alan Shearer - what an absolute legend!

The key to leading a healthier life isn’t found in changing our external appearance, but rather in changing our self-perception?

Whether it's something that people openly admit to others or tend to hide out of shame and embarrassment, they often self-loathe about their body or certain parts of it at least.

This negativity is a sad reflection of our society and it’s unsurprising that people struggle with body image issues. We are bombarded with images of unrealistic beauty standards that leave us feeling inadequate and insecure.

I believe this equates to a self-defeatist attitude when it comes to getting involved in a health and fitness programme. We are battling our thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes about ourselves, rather than focusing on the irrefutable fact that we are all brilliantly human and a biological phenomenon. Each day our bodies perform incredible feats that are nothing short of a miracle, to keep us living, breathing and enjoying everything this wonderful planet has to offer.

When you next catch yourself being critical of your body, challenge your thoughts and question your motives. Look in the mirror at yourself and focus on all that is amazing about being unashamedly you…lumps and bumps and all!

Practice gratitude for the things your body allows you to do and rather than turn your back on exercise and movement, enjoy feeling your muscles pulsing, your heart racing and your lungs filling with air. A day may come when you’re unable to run, dance, jump or swim. Be mindful of that and feel lucky to be alive.

If you learn to appreciate and love your body, rather than wishing it was different, you are far more likely to make choices to support what is already totally unique and incredible.

If you focus on all that is beautiful about your body, you’ll be more likely to eat nutritious food, go to bed earlier and engage in physical activity. Not for the approval of strangers on social media, but because you’re sick of being held back by negative self-talk and you want to care for the internal systems that enable you to live your best life.

Zip Fit Weekly Challenge - Week 6

Set those reminders and get moving!

Our bodies have been designed to move. We are benefitted by the stretch and contraction of muscles, the movement of our nerves, the sliding and twisting of our joints. All of these components of movement assist good blood flow, oxygenation of our tissues and facilitate positive responses in our nervous systems. If we do not use these structures regularly (i.e. sitting at a desk all day) then we minimise these benefits. The muscles may lose their strength and the joints will be exposed to increasing pressure.

According to new research, sitting for long periods of time can also lead to low levels of inflammation throughout the body.

There is mounting evidence that this chronic, low grade inflammation can smoulder in your body making you more susceptible to non-infectious diseases like heart disease, type two diabetes, arthritis, Alzheimers and high cholesterol...to name a few!

One of the main reasons for this is that inactivity (especially long, continuous periods of sitting) can eventually lead to high levels of organ (visceral) fat. When these fat cells grow too large, they become dysfunctional and trigger inflammation.

By merely engaging in occasional low intensity, non-exercise physical activities throughout the day, you can expend much more energy (keeping your weight down), keep your muscles active and your blood flowing.

The long-term benefits of this are incalculable. Remember, it's the small actions you do each day that add up over time.

So, here's what I want you to do...and let's be realistic.

- Set a phone or computer reminder to make sure you move every 15 or 30 mins

- Go and do something physical for 100 seconds.

That's it!

You can walk up and down the stairs, visit a colleague at the other side of the office, do a few jumping jacks if you're working from home, nip out for some fresh air, make a call on the move, do a few stretches.

For anyone that's interested, we can even set up a FREE, 30 minute lunchtime taster session for you and your team. We'll get you out into the fresh air to blow the cobwebs away, get your blood flowing and muscles pulsing.

Give me a call 07883077539 to find out more or DM me.

What are you waiting for? Get moving! 👊

Have a great day.

Trying to cut down on sugar?

Read this! ☝️☝️☝️☝️

Cutting out the sugary treats (the naughty stuff) was this week’s Zip Fit Weekly Challenge.

How did you get on? Only two days to go 🙌.

In 1972, British scientist John Yudkin first proved that refined sugar was bad for our health. He was ignored, dismissed by the food industry and discredited for political gain.

We should have heeded his warning ⚠️

According to the most recent NHS health survey, around two-thirds of the English population aged 16 or over are overweight or obese.

There are clearly other factors to consider but the overconsumption of high sugared, processed foods is a decisive one.

We need take action and a good place to start is by empowering ourselves

Read this book.

I believe education is an incredibly powerful tool if you want to make positive changes to your life. Absorb good material and take action.

Thanks to all those people who have reached out to me recently. It’s nice to know that our Zip Fit Weekly Challenges are gaining momentum and helping.

I know I keep going on (broken record Chris), but making this a shared experience and being part of a community, is going to make a difficult journey easier.

Have a great weekend everyone.
