Coming soon: A video about our intraductal meibomian gland probing procedure. This is a relatively new technique whereby a thin wire probe is used to unblock the meibomian glands. It is an effective treatment for dry eye caused by meibomian gland dysfunction.

This is a meibomian gland probe.

Intraductal meibomian gland probing and expression (MGPE) is an effective treatment for meibmomian gland dysfunction and dry eye disease. It is especially useful where conventional treatment, such as warm compresses, have not helped.

Meibomian gland probing is a relatively new technique that clears the oil producing glands in your eyelids of constricting periductal fibroses (scar tissue) found in 75% of meibomian glands. It is carried out under a local anesthetic.

Robert Longhurst is one of only a few clinicians in the UK able to perform this procedure.
