Some old coaching material that I just converted to a blog for those who want to decipher the ins and outs of anaemia, and whether or not you truly have it.

Iron is a poor marker of anaemia. Understanding other markers which include thyroid function are key to prevent unnecessary iron supplements, which may cause more harm.

You will have seen my many posts on the benefits of thiamine previously and the historical research that was conducted in the 1940s linking heavy menstrual bleeding to thiamine deficiency. If you haven't they are probably in last years date and I'll post some in my stories.
--
This recent study shows that thiamine in a study group of 83 females between 18-26 years of age took part in the study. It shows that significant decreases in both days bleeding and use of menstrual pads, impressively so too. I think part of the action of the benefits to be gained from adequate thiamine will stem from its capacity to enhance estrogen detoxification when excessive, in addition to enhancing glucose oxidation, which may be impeded somewhat from excess estrogen and increased aerobic glycolysis, which when persistent and elevated can promote an hypoxic state.
--
This also echoes other more modern research that demonstrates the effects of B1 to decrease menstrual bleeding associated with intrauterine devices conducted in 2014 by the same researchers. Thiamine could be used as an effective agent for decreasing bleeds in those reticent to explore the use of either progesterone or thyroid which act well as anti estrogens, however thiamine may not be the only agent needed in some cases.

Having some really nice results with both thyroid and PMS type clients at the moment and specifically with the application of B complex. I still think that progesterone can be a missing link for many ladies who experience PMS, clotting, mood related changes, fertility, sleep and hair loss amongst other issues. However in those already taking progesterone whose symptoms do not ameliorate it could be the requirement for thiamine or a B complex.
--
It's also quite plausible that thyroid is a missing link but addressing B vitamin and progesterone need would be first steps to resolve after dietary interventions. The history of menstrual disorders and the links to B complex and thiamine (also posted a lot on this before) , as you can see on the next slide are well documented almost century ago.

Thiamine is interesting because it's required in larger amounts. Some resources suggest an extra 1 mg per thousand calories, which I think is way off the mark. You might remember that there are many foods high in thiaminases such as sushi, coffee, and carbohydrates require substantially more thiamine to regulate entry of pyruvate for conversion of ATP in the cell for energy.
--
Thiamine loss is implicated in the hypoxic state and implicated in metabolic and neurological degeneration. And thiamine is also needed for the conjugation of estrogens, and increases riboflavin and other B vitamin requirements a Complex might be useful to experiment with instead of thiamine in isolation. That said I have seen some clients respond well to thiamine alone. Increasing conjugation of estrogens and ultimately the excretion through glucuronidation, methylation and sulfation and excretion in the urine and bile is essential for addressing the estrogen dominant state.

Why do some need an increase in B vitamins. Thiamine as an example is instrumental in metabolising estrogen, and enhancing the use of glucose. Research starting in the 1930s highlighted the success in addressing energy, menstrual irregularities like PMS, heavy bleeding, and fibrosis related issues with vitamins like B1, B2, B3 and more.
